PROBLEMS ARISES WHILE USING CONVENTIONAL OPERATING SYSTEM

1. The installation process of these operating system is very time consuming 2. Its not sure that if one program is running on one type of operating system then it will work properly with another kind of operating system 3. The computer using kind of operating system are not truly the mobile system ( even the laptop) 4. These operating system dont protect file properly from viruses until an antivirus is installed. 5. In these operating system data is basically stored in the hard disk of the system. so the whole data is lost if the hard disk fails 6. These operating system dont provide security against hacking 7. Some language in the market are compatible only for one kind of operating system but not for others( like visual basic can work only on Microsofts operating system) 8. No one can access his/her data from a single machine in the absence of power supply. Because data is stored on hard disk of one machine. 9. If you have to install any software on such kind of operating system then you have to bother about the hardware configuration of the system 10. Using many of these operating system require a licenses to be purchased 11. Most of the time the operating system used are pirated and they give many runtime errors and also some software are sometimes not capable to work properly with these pirated operating system.

INTRODUCTION
The solution of all the problems mentioned above is to have a system which is mobile in real sense. So that a person dont depend upon one machine . I think ,also there arises a need of an application that can cover any programs and show the things to users irrespective of which platform they are on . So the only solution is internet . What internet? Are u fool? How an internet can be used as an operating system? What are you saying anshul? Etc.. But I am saying why not? I know this is a typical task to think that an operating system whom we all considered as a big program that manages all the resources of my computer ,acvt as the only controller of my computer can be replaced by the internet . Actually the main thing is that we All have more faith on our pc rather than the internet When I visit a site during the search of this topic then I read the comment of a person and I realize that it can be the views of any person who do not know anything about WEBTOP.

According to him but the real deal breaker is trust : are you going to let someone else handle all your data? If you use a google served computing environment, everything you upload, download, or type potentially passes through googles computer. Ill be the first to sign in ,but thats my blind faith in statistics. If there s a privacy breach at google ,I figure Ill be about 10 millionth in line to get hurt. How about it: would you trust google to protect your e-mail, your tax document ,and your family photos? Page | 5

But if u come to know about this WEBTOP you will not say this .so lets start. Our primary idea is to have an internetOS . Is the world ready for an online operating system? Or something pretty close to that idea? With the spread of high speed broadband and powerful computer, someone can think that a lot of individual consumers and business might be ready for an almost total online presence, has this WEBTOP as a nice solution.

O.K. BUT NOW THE BIG QUESTION THAT COMES INTO OUR MIND IS THAT IS ALL THE PERSONS WHO ARE USING PC ARE JUST WASTING THEIR TIME AND MONEY? My answer for this question is that as soon as pcs became affordable, people abandoned mini computer and main frame in mass. They did this for one simple reason: nobody wants network computing. Nothing has fundamentally changed. and the experience that comes with it. But now the latest feature in the internet is the webtop. a webtop is an online operating system .making a new operating system is always an exciting prospect so several online sites have sprung up that provide a complete operating system in a web browser ,with proper GUI , toolbar, various applications and the works. This opens up several interesting possibilities and opportunities. People like playing games, they like customizing their pc in short; they want to own a computer

HISTORY
Researchers at UC barkely were among the first to explore the possibilities of a web based operating system, with the Web OS project, started in mid-90s. the project , part of a wider initiative called Berkely Network of workstations(NOW),was designed to create a set of system resources that could be used in a geographically distributed way. At the turn of decade, the frenzy around online application service provision reached its height. Services such as desktop .com and MywebOS were offering online desktops to consumers but the world was not ready and such ideas were crashed . Now, with web 2.0 players preaching a more grown up, sustainable platform for commercial ventures, several players are hoping that WEBTOPS will become viable. Most of them offering proprietary systems that bear only a passing resemblance to windows (in the sense that they have a windowing GUI ). Sachin duggal (chief executive of NIVIO) IDENTIFIES A number of threats facing traditional computer users: data lose, privacy and internet security threats, incompatibility, system availability, and outdated hardware and software. Some software vendors are using the application to solve some of these problems,he says, nighlighting Google Docs as an example. but we think that a myopic view of solving the problem is to go back to the platform and change it from local to centralized .

WHATS NEW?????
Now the main question that comes into our mind regarding this topic is that, I M having original windows or linux operating system working well in my system then why should I go for a webtop. There are many points that attracts a regural user of computer of towards a webtop. THESE ARE: 1. now you are not depanding on one machine for your stored data. 2. there is no need to carry the data physically with you. You can get all your data just on your demand. 3. whenever you leave a webtop i.e. you logoff your webtop and you login again you get the setting as it is at as you left last time. 4. you can share your desktop by setting the sharing option. 5. now you can install any application without bothering about hardware factor. 6. the pc having dual core processor and 256 MB ram has the same speed as the pc having 64 MB ram and pantium 4 processor. Because the speed doesnt depend upon the hardware but on the speed of internet. 7. viruses cant attack on the files used in the webtop. So you have no need to install the antivirus. 8. a program developed in the webtop can run on any webtop without any change. 9. a webtop can run on any operating system. 10. you can access your operating system on your cell-phones having internet facilities. 11. this webtop dont have kernel so sensitive data cant be hacked.

FACTORS ON WHICH WEBTOP NEED TO LOOK YET

Page | 15

However, very truly new operating system suffers from a serious and technical fatal problems: a lack of applications. And when applications finally come to the new OS, they do not compare favorably to mature applications from the more established platforms. So there are some factors where a webtop need to work yet. These are: 1. a webtop cant work offline. There are some OS like XIOS which can downland and use off-line but this feature is not provided with any other OS. 2. a webtop can work at a high speed on a broadband connection. 3. it cant work with dial-up connection. 4. everytime you want to access your data, you need the internet connection working properly.

FUTURE OF THIS TECHNOLOGY

The future of webtop is very bright, the use of internet is becoming very popular. The developer of this concept have the following ideas as a future of webtop: This not so distant future when you can simply access your webtop on your tv. This can be done by simply embedded web browser on your set top boxes, and provide the access of the complete webtop through it. Consumers can then access the entire operating system on their tv. The time is not far when the internet is the only boss in IT. One day we will use internet for our simple daily basis calculations and to handle daily records but by the help of these web operating systems.

CONCLUSION
I WOULD LIKE TO CONCLUDE MY SEMINAR WITH THESE WORDS: The webtop is a technology that changing the era with growth of web application and maturation of high speed internet we can now have a truly portable and personalized operating system. Web browser is one of the most versatile application in IT. It is the catalytic converter that can take any application and display it to users irrespective of which they are on. Thats why just about every application today is accessible through a web browser.
