Dear IPSA members/Colleagues, We are pleased to announce that the XXIX Annual Conference & National Symposium of Indian Poultry Science Association (IPSACON2012) is being organised at Hyderabad by Project Directorate on Poultry in collaboration with Sri Vekateswara Veterinary th University from 5th to 7 December 2012. Theme The theme of the Conference is Commercial and rural poultry production : Novel concepts and strategies to meet growing demand and changing consumer needs. India has recorded phenomenal growth of poultry industry during the past 4 decades. However, the per capita availability of eggs and meat is far below the recommended levels of consumption. Further, 25% of the countrys population, living in urban or semi-urban areas, consume 75-80% of the total eggs and broiler meat produced in the country. The demand for poultry products, eggs and meat is constantly increasing because of their nutritive value, wide acceptability and cost effectiveness compared to other sources of animal protein. The poultry industry will now need to adopt changed breeding programme with more emphasis on the needs of the consumer (e.g. product quality, health and animal welfare etc.), as well as the needs of the breeders/producers (e.g. lower feed costs, better survivability and higher fertility etc.). The traditional breeding methods need to be supplemented with the modern biotechnological and genetic engineering tools for augmenting the productivity. The consequences of climate change phenomena are now evident and considered as the serious long-term threat to poultry production. The issue of greatest concern to poultry industry is the increasing feed cost, which is the major input (70-75%) in the cost of production. Thus there is a need to deliberate these pertinent issues and arrive at fruitful suggestions for further prosperity of the sector. The Organizers The Conference will be jointly organized by Project Directorate on Poultry (PDP) and Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU). PDP is one of the premier research institutions under the aegis of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The Institute is an autonomous multidisciplinary research & development organization in the field of poultry science catering to the needs of poultry farmers of the country. Ever since its inception in 1988, the institute has rendered useful services in the development and improvement of chicken lines for commercial and rural poultry production. SVVU, carved out of ANGRAU, has been the focal point for high value education, research and extension in all the branches of veterinary science and animal husbandry. The local College of Veterinary Science of SVVU has churned out laudable number of undergraduate, PG and PhDs in veterinary science and AH.

Venue Hyderabad, the historical place of Kakatiya, Qutub Shashi and Nizam rulers having 400 years of history, along with its twin city Secunderabad is located on the banks of the river Musi.
