QUINNIPIAC UNIVERSITY/CBS NEWS/NEW YORK TIMES POLL For release: Wednesday, September 19, 2012 3:00 AM EDT

A Tight Race in Colorado; President Obama Has the Edge in Virginia and Wisconsin September 11-17, 2012 The race is tight in Colorado, while President Barack Obama has the edge over Mitt Romney in Virginia and Wisconsin. A month ago, Romney led on handling the economy in all three states, but the President has cut into those leads and the two candidates are now running much closer on this measure. In the aftermath of events in Libya and the Middle East, President Obama has the advantage on managing an international crisis and has the edge on national security in Virginia and Wisconsin. While pluralities view Barack Obamas policies as favoring the middle class, in all three states most voters see Mitt Romneys policies as benefiting the rich.

Where the Race Stands Barack Obama was trailing Mitt Romney in Colorado last month, but the race is now effectively even there. In Virginia, Barack Obama maintains his four-point lead over Mitt Romney. In Wisconsin, Romney had pulled nearly even with the President following the announcement last month of Congressman Paul Ryan as his running mate but Mr. Obama now once again leads Mitt Romney there by six points. 2012 Vote for President (Among likely voters) Virginia Wisconsin Now 8/8/2012 Now 8/23/2012 50% 49% 51% 49% 46 45 45 47
