There are no constraints on the human mind, no walls around the human spirit, and no barriers to our progress

except those we ourselves erect Ronald Reagan Last week, James very aptly quoted Winston Churchill in stating that a change of executive was far from the end for the Young Nationals Southern Region. Nothing more true could have been said! The Young Nationals Southern Region is quickly growing into the most vibrant political youth wing in the Southern Region and I cannot wait to see that growth continue. All our members, supporters and friends are truly brilliant. With a team like ours, we have the most opportunity to succeed than ever before. It is an outstanding honour to be able to serve you all as Chair. There is something very special about the Young Nats, a group of young people who are all joined by very sound beliefs. An understanding that New Zealanders can be trusted with responsibilities over their own lives, that effort should never be punished, and those in need deserve support that will really see their lives progress. So who is in the new executive? Lets meet them: Chair: Im Todd Dickens. My liking of the National Party comes from a very firm belief in its principles. Personal freedom, responsibility, fiscal prudency and most importantly the thought that people ought to be trusted with their own affairs. I come from a very modest background, and hardworking family. I do believe in having a welfare state, although it needs to be sustainable and give help to those in true need. People ought to remember that pennies do not fall from heaven; they need to be earned here, on earth. A bonus to all who know that quote! I am determined to see the Young Nats grow and help see National into a third term! Deputy Chair: John Brinsley-Pirie spent last year working in policy, pushing for social liberalisation (or modernisation as he says). He has now decided to hand over the reins of policy to the able and willing Varsha! As Deputy John is committed to working with the team to push YNSR onto the National stage (get it?!) and gear up for the good fight in 2014. He will also bring us some choice social events along the way.

Secretary: Hey Guys, I'm Stephanie-Mai! It is going to be awesome to serve the Young Nats Southern Region for another term as secretary. I'll keep up watching the accounts, advertising materials, and many more ... really exciting things! I have really enjoyed being on the exec and learning the new skills that comes from it. I take the task on for a second time as I know I can do more for this region, and still have fun doing it!

Policy Chair: Hey Im Varsha and Im the new policy chair for 2013! First up I think John Brinsley-Pirie did an amazing job as policy chair and I plan on continuing his goal of liberalising the Southern Region. I got involved with the Young Nats as a passionate supporter of the party. I aim on making a huge contribution into increasing membership here in the South and plan on bringing a lot of energy into the party. Throughout the year I have seen the Young Nats build up a strong foundation, and have wanted to be involved in the executive since I signed up. Im looking forward to an amazing year working with everyone and am excited for this great learning opportunity. Communications Officer: The National Party serves us all in a positive and inspiring way. As a party, they aim to ensure national and personal security, building upon the existing foundations that we as a country have built. They also strive to ensure personal responsibility of each of our nations residents. It is these, along with and many more values, that draw me to the National party and my involvement with the respected Young Nats. As a Human Resource and Event Management major (bucking the Pols/Law trend) I look forward to working with the party. With my experience chairing various committees and organisations, within Dunedin and my epic hometown of Gore, I feel I can contribute great efforts to the outcomes that the Young Nats can provide for you. I look forward to doing this, not only politically but socially as well. Nathan Dickson.

Regional Representatives
We in Southern have a district which is rather mighty; it has not only the strength but the size to back it up! We desire to ensure not one piece of Southern is missed. If you live in any of these regions, or know people who do, and have a tendency to veer right get in touch! There may just be an awesome social event about to happen right under your nose.

The Times, They Are A-Changing

So thats us. We arent a bad bunch of people. We owe the great foundations we have to work upon to the previous executive. James Meager, your contributions to our society were beyond any seen before. Yourself, along with Mark Currie, will be sorely missed. Look out for us on Campus well be there. Look out for us in the outer regions well be there. We have a goal, thats gaining all the Party Votes we possibly can in 2014 to ensure a third term. We have a strategy, through a series of small improvements we will grow our organisation until its very presence, its mere existence, will have the opposition daunted. Keeping in mind some of my favourite words, as mentioned above, there shall be no barriers to our progress except those we ourselves erect. So none! Thank You all, Todd Dickens Regional Chair Young Nationals Southern Region
