Political Compass: Where Do You Stand?

There are so many paths to choose from, each path has its own unique quirk, A line I took from the poem of Sam Seymours No Direction. Each of the people in this world is created as a unique individual far from others in both body and soul. Having these unique individualities bore independent interests. Therefore, each one has their very own path to choose of what their aims or purposes for an existence in this world. Just like different paths, the political compass determines your stand or path amongst political ideologies which is based upon your beliefs in life, principles that were instilled to you and your very personality. On my case, my stand is on right-wing authoritarianism (RWA).

As of my understanding with basis on internet articles defining RWA, people who consider themselves to believe on RWA are those who value uniformity and not individuality. Right-wing authoritarians favor punishment as oppose to criminal acts and control over the masses. These punishments are more to be stricter and punitive than what is currently present at our country. For instance, during former president Marcos time as presidency in the 1960s , the cilia electrica or electric chair was imposed to sentenced those who committed acts of murder, stealing, and other major offenses which are often (shown) as a national event that would serve as a warning to those who was planning to do such act. An example of which is the Triple Execution on the May of 1972 in the Philippines. Despite of the definition said above, right-wing authoritarians have

also conservative economic philosophy which, as I learned, pays more attention to old practices that are tested through time. Having these definitions incline with RWA, I can see relative characteristics to a novel that our former school had asked me to read. It was entitled Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell. On the novel, the government system use in the story was authoritarianism. It controls the masses by the manipulation of language as it could trigger their sense of rebellion, presence of telescreens which is known to be cctv cameras in todays time, and other means of controlling the mass. Although, the author has already state some feasible effects or consequences that are caused by said authoritarian government which contradicts the idea of creating politically ideal concepts.

Seeing that my answers reflect on the basic characteristics of a rightwing authoritarian, I can say that I would agree in some aspects of RWA. In punishing criminals, I do agree with the approach of the authoritarian in terms of dealing with criminal acts for I can say that these punishments would instill both clarity and warning to those who violate the codes of law. Clarity, in a sense, that will clearly verify that their act of violence have equitable consequences in return. Also, strict implementations against migration, and others rules will have shape the people to a right path of decency and uniformity that will cause no problems to others. I am not saying that I am against individuality and uniqueness, but uniformity, in a sense, that individuality can occur as long as good is being done and it will not broke it a scenario of protests to personal freedom and whatsoever

because I believe too much freedom, especially for selfless person who gives importance to themselves first, can be offending for others as to their rights and needs a person. My final word as regards to my stand in the political compass is that I am not limiting myself to a concept alone. I can adapt certain characteristics present on other political ideology for it not only limits your knowledge, but also helps you solve inextricable problems that one ideology alone cannot provide a solution to it. I do respect other known political ideology at present and will show no sense of selflessness to stick by one ideology alone and, nevertheless, criticize others for irrational reasons. As to the others who also believe on the right-wing authoritarianism, all I can say is that be open for other ideology for the world is at a constant rate of change and not only, the world gets trickier as time goes by, but also, problems that will arise gets more difficult ever to handle. Also, amidst the gruesome trial and errors upon solving each growing problem, always leave a mark upon your findings which can let other people finish what you have started. Just like the last lines of the poem No Direction, - I aim to leave a beacon at the end of the path, for the weary and lost, and give direction, to those who have become blind.
