Boyne City 14,
Harbor Springs 7
HARBOR SPRINGS Corey
Redman found Maceo Vroman for
a 30-yard touchdown pass with
2:20 remaining in the game, as
Boyne City improved to 4-0 on the
season in the Lake Michigan Con-
ference contest on September 14
at Harbor's Ottawa Stadium.
The Ramblers also improved to
2-0 in the LMC, while the Rams
fell to 2-2 overall, 1-1 conference.
After a scoreless first quarter,
Boyne got on the board first as
Rambler linebacker Conner Mills
picked off a Rams pass and raced
56 yards to pay dirt, giving Boyne
City a 6-0 lead at the 7:46 mark of
the second quarter.
Both teams then battled back
and fourth in a scoreless third
quarter, before Harbor was able
to break into the scoring column
at 10:06 of the fourth on a Sam
Houston 21-yard scamper. The
extra point was good by Connor
Lavender for a 7-6 Ram lead.
The Ramblers would go three
and out on their next possession.
Harbor Springs would then run
over two minutes off the clock as
they reached the Boyne City 20-
yard line, setting up for a field
goal attempt with 2:52 remaining
in the contest that would sail just
wide of the upright, giving pos-
session back to the Ramblers.
That's when the Rambler offen-
sive line would pull together and
give their sophomore quarter-
back, Redman just enough time to
find Vroman three consecutive
times down the right sideline, re-
sulting in a touchdown and put-
ting Boyne back on top. The
two-point conversion was good as
Redman connected with Bradley
Fouchia. Redman would escape
multiple Ram tacklers on the
touchdown toss.
Corey stood in there on that
last drive, and our offensive line
gave him time, Boyne coach
David Hills said. They packed
the box all game, and we strug-
gled with it early on.
After the Rams took posses-
sion, with 1:41 remaining, they
would fumble, and Boyne line-
man Michael Dohm would re-
cover, sealing the win for the
Ramblers as they would run out
the clock.
This is kind of what we've
been doing all year, coach David
Hills said. The kids stay in the
moment, when their met with ad-
versity, they believe good things
will happen, we are a very re-
silient team.
Leading the Ramblers on of-
fense was Malik Smith with 45
yards on 11 carries, while
Fouchia added 37
on 11 attempts.
Redman finished
4-of-7 passing for
83 yards with a
touchdown and
had a long run
called back in the
first quarter due
to a penalty. Vro-
man would finish
with three recep-
tions for 80 yards,
all on the Ram-
blers final drive.
Leading the de-
fense was Alan
Manross with 14
tackles, while
Dale Tarket
added 11, Zach Wandrie finished
with 10, Fouchia nine, Vroman
eight and an interception, Mills
five tackles and an interception
return for touchdown, and Dohm
added five stops to go with his
fumbler recovery.
The Ramblers travel to Tra-
verse City St. Francis for a non-
conference showdown with the
Gladiators on Saturday, Septem-
ber 22.

ska on September 14.

Young Red Devils outscore
Blazers in second half but
fall 53-26
By Chris Fiel
KALKASKA The Red Devils
JV football team could have
packed it up at halftime and hung
their heads, but the young East
Jordan team made some adjust-
ments and outscored Kalkaska
20-13 in the second half as they
fell 53-26 on September 13.
The Blazers jumped out to an
early and big lead, going up 40-6
at the break, but after a few ad-
justments, the Red Devils were
able to string together a few de-
fensive stops, and found ways to
keep their own drives going as
they tried to claw their way back
into the contest.
East Jordan finished as a team
with 112 yards rushing, 122 pass-
ing and 174 on special teams.
The rain slowed us down a lit-
tle, and it caused some mistakes
for both teams, East Jordan
coach Greg Kitson said. This
was our first game in the rain,
and I was happy with how we ad-
justed. We have come a long way
since our first game of the year
offensively, but we need to get our
defense off the field. We have
had a different offensive leader
each of the last three weeks, and
I am excited about where we are
headed.
Noah Raymond finished 10-of-
22 passing for 122 yards and a
touchdown to Donny Cutler to
lead the offense, while Bailey Sar-
gent led the rushing attack with
all 112 yards and two touch-
downs. Cutler also scored on a
kick return and Jordan
Cartwright caught a two-point
conversion pass.
On defense, Wyatt Crick and
Cutler led the team with 11 tack-
les each and Hector Paz added
eight. Raymond also had an inter-
ception.

ELK RAPIDS The Ray-
ders found themselves fac-
ing an early deficit as they
fell behind 21-7, and ulti-
mately dropped a Lake
Michigan Conference con-
test to the Elks 48-21 on Sep-
tember 14.
With the loss, Charlevoix
fell to 0-4 overall, 0-2 confer-
ence, while the Elks im-
proved to 2-2, 1-0.
A huge bright spots for
the Rayders was their abil-
ity to move the ball offen-
sively, as senior Tanner Catt
rushed 14 times for 127
yards, Shane Sutherland
racked up 87 yards on 15
carries, Charlie Hamilton
chipped in with 69 yards on
three attempts and Bryan
Noirot ran for 33 yards.
Quarterback Luke
Klinger finished with seven
completions for 92 yards
passing, including a scoring
strike to Catt. Catt also com-
pleted one pass for 16 yards
to go with his two recep-
tions.
The Charlevoix defense
was led by Jared Reibel and
Greyson Spegele's seven
stops, while Tommy Zipp
and Hamilton had five tack-
les apiece and John Frey-
berg added three and a sack.

for us, Boyne coach Casie

GAYLORD The Lady Lancers
traveled to Gaylord to take on the
St. Mary Snowbirds in a non-con-
ference match-up on September
13.
Ellsworth took the match 25-23,
18-25, 25-18, 25-18.

Warner had 13 digs; Tara Essen-
berg chipped in with nine digs;

We started out our first game
some what flat, I had to call a
time out and we all decided that
we were going to show Gaylord
St. Marys that Ellsworth could
play volleyball, Lancer coach
Linda Steenwyk said. We had
met them at our first tournament
of the year and we had just not
shown up for that game at all and
we really didn't want to do that
again tonight.
ALANSON Ellsworth over-
came a slow start as they defeated
the Alanson Vikings on Septem-
ber 11.
The Lady Lancers took the
three game match 25-17, 25-16, 25-
13.

percent and recorded three aces.

We struggled with our serving
tonight and normally we are a
pretty consistent serving team,
Lancer coach Linda Steenwyk
said. Each game we moved and
set the ball up better as we hit
more of a rhythm as we went
along.
