DRAKE UNIVERSITY STUDENT SENATE REPRESENTING THE STUDENTS OF DRAKE UNIVERSITY

We, the members of the Drake University Student Senate, in order to ensure the proper functioning of the Student Senate and to ease Senates communication processes, pass this amendment to the Rules and Regulations of the Student Senate. In the Drake University Student Senate 20 September 2012 Motion SS [120913] A; Proxy Procedures Bylaws Amendment To affirm and enact the proposed amendments to Drake Universitys Student Senate bylaws, in order to constantly strive to update and improve the Rules and Regulations of the Drake University Student Senate.

1. Whereas, the Student Senate requires Senators to send a proxy if they are to be
absent from a general Student Senate meeting;

2. Whereas, the current procure is unwieldy and insufficient; 3. Whereas, the current bylaws require Senators to send their proxys name 48-hours
in advance to the Vice President of Student Life and Secretary;

4. Whereas, the current bylaws also require Senators to send in their voting record to
the VP of Student Life and Secretary prior to Student Senates general meeting;

5. Whereas, Student Senates meeting agenda is sent out 24-hours in advance,

therefore causing Senators to communicate twice for proxy clarifications;

6. Whereas, this bylaw amendment creates a more efficient procedure for Senators
that is timely and fair to the Student Body and the Student Senate; Now, therefore, be it Moved. That, (1) The following be amended to the Rules and Regulations of the Student Senate: III.2. Absences III.2.1. In case of the absence of an elected Student Senate member at a regular meeting of the Student Senate, s/he must notify the Vice President of Student Life at least 48 24 hours of the meeting. S/he must provide a proxy and record of how the proxy will vote to the Vice President of Student Life and the Secretary.

We, the members of Drake University Student Senate, in order to ensure the proper functioning of the Student Senates standing committees, to affirm our commitment to the Constitution and Bylaws that govern our actions, and to facilitate a smooth transition into the twenty-sixth session of the Drake University Student Senate, do hereby move to approve the nominations made by the Student Body President and Vice President of Student Life for the student memberships of the Campus Advancement Committee, the Student Services Committee, the Student Fees Allocation Committee, the Student Affairs Committee, the Community Outreach Committee, the First-Year Interest Committee and the Presidents Council. Committee Member Appointments To approve the nominations made by the Student Body President and Vice President of Student Life for the student memberships of the Campus Advancement Committee, the Student Services Committee, the Student Fees Allocation Committee, the Student Affairs Committee, the Community Outreach Committee, the First-Year Interest Committee and the Presidents Council in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Drake University Student Senate. 1. Whereas, it is the responsibility of the Student Body President and Vice President of Student Life to present the Student Senate with a list of nominations for the student memberships of the aforementioned standing committees; 2. Whereas, it is within the Student Senates purview to approve or reject said nominations; 3. Whereas, it is the duty of the Student Senate officials to uphold the Constitution and Bylaws of the Drake University Student Senate; 4. Whereas, the duties filled by the Student Senates standing committees are essential for the proper functioning of the Drake University Student Senate; Now therefore, be it Moved. That the following nominations by the Student Body President and Vice President of Student Life, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Drake University Student Senate, be approved: Student Fees Allocation Committee Student Affairs Committee Campus Advancement Committee

Student Services Committee Community Outreach Committee Presidents Council First-Year Interest We, the members of Drake University Student Senate, in an effort to continually improve Drake University, express our approval for Drake Universitys Strategic Plan 2012 2017: In the Drake University Student Senate 20 September 2012 RESOLUTION SR [120920] B; Endorsement of Drake Universitys Strategic Plan 2013 - 2017

1. Whereas, the Strategic Plan has had input from over 200 individuals; including
administration, staff, faculty, board, and students;

2. Whereas, Student Senate has met with the Strategic Plan planning council and voiced
our ideas and concerns about the plan, which were hereby taken into consideration;

3. Whereas, all Senators involved in the process have expressed sincere approval for the
plan;

4. Whereas, Faculty Senate has passed a resolution supporting Drakes Strategic Plan on
September 19th, 2012;

5. Whereas, this plan will provide a positive direction for Drakes future; 6. Whereas, this plan also has an implementation structure in place to ensure its
completion; Now, therefore, be it Resolved. That Drake University Student Senate recommends and supports Drake Universitys Strategic Plan 2012 2017.
