Kathy!took!an!interest!in!drawing!at!a!young!age.!Her!interest!was!rekindled!in!1999!when!she! started!working!in!watercolour.!!Over!the!years!she!added!other!mediums!including!pastel!and! coloured!pencil.!Kathy!has!no!formal!art!education,!but!has!taken!many!workshops!!in!various! mediums.!!!She!has!done!commissioned!works!that!include!landscapes,!architecture!,!people!and! pet!portraits.!Kathy!has!won!awards!in!juried!shows!in!pastels,!graphite!and!watercolour.!!Her! work!is!in!corporate!and!private!collections!in!North!America!and!Abroad.!

Instrumental!in!forming!the!Group!Bay!of!Islands!Group!of!Five.!!We!successfully!had! three!annual!Art!Shows.! Started!up!Art!group!in!my!community!and!called!it!Rainbow!Country!Art!Club!in!1999.!! While!wintering!in!Florida!I!am!on!a!committee!for!holding!an!annual!Art!Show!in!our! community.! Plan!to!give!instruction!on!a!weekly!basis!in!coloured!pencil!techniques.!

& & Artists&Statement&

I feel that I need to paint. That its a part of my self-expression. Im inspired to convey positive feelings of joy, peace and tranquility. I find the process of breathing life into a painting truly fascinating. I love working with pastels because I can actually touch and feel my paintings. I also like to working with coloured pencils, graphite and watercolour. Along with landscapes and floras, I really enjoy doing portraits. A successful painting is one where I can feel life in it. For a landscape, I can imagine myself moving around in the painting; feeling the sun and the air. For a portrait, I can sense their personality and spirit looking back at me. Starting with a good composition I think that values, shapes, lines, colours and textures all play an important role in a successful painting. Im also very conscious of light and shadow. The most influential artist for me was Zolton Szabo. I attended a workshop of his in the summer of 2001, and came away with a whole new awareness of colour, values and other important fundamentals of a good painting. My goal is to keep challenging myself to successfully capture life and emotion in my art.

If!I!were!a!member!of!the!SCA!I!could!contribute!to!the!organization!by!volunteering!to!put!to!use! my!skills!and!knowledge!in!computers,!software,!databases!and!web!design.!I!am!positive!that!my! experience!in!chairing!the!La!Cloche!Art!Show!as!well!as!previously!forming!a!local!art!group! would!be!beneficial!to!your!organization.!!
