Module 4
Overview
The topics addressed in this module are all tools that will allow the user to enhance a basic simulation. Each topic adds substance to the simulation. The need to communicate with other stakeholders will determine which of these tools you will find most useful. The topics are presented independently using aspects of the basic simulation that has been created. As each functionality is addressed, it is captured in the PPR Tree and the growing robustness of the process simulation will be evident.

Locate the Analysis Tools toolbar and click on the Pathfinder icon.
Then click on the Move Activity from the PPR tree or click on the track of the Move Activity on which the function will be preformed. The screen will shade differently to indicate that this Function is active. The Path Finder dialog box appears. Select Srombo 1/20 from the pull down menu in the Visualization box. This allows the positions to be based on a specific parameters (every 20 steps). Set the Step size to Large. Large steps take less time in the computation. 4 Click APPLY.
7
If the indicated Move Activity is asking for a move of geometry that cannot be accomplished the following dialog box will appear.
Use Path

If the Path Finder command can complete its computation, the screen will blink and the original dialog box will appear again. Notice that the path will have some Red Xs along it. Examine these points carefully and be aware of the current route. This is an example of a path finder activity.

1. This Exercise will be run from the Simulation3 file. First Click on the Path Finder icon from the Analysis Tools toolbar. 2. Click on the Coil Sub Assy move activity from the PPR tree. Set the options in the path finder dialog to the appropriate settings then click Apply. 3. If the operation was successful, the screen flashed and the original dialog box has returned. Red Xs will also be positioned around the original move activity. 4. Click OK to accept the suggested modified move.

The Auto Synchronization function allows the user to jump the simulation to any point that is desired. It synchronizes everything in the simulation to the selected referenced activity point in the process tree. Modifications made with this functionality activated mean that the world data model automatically reflects the modification. This is a very convenient function for editing sophisticated simulations involving multiple, simultaneously related tasks and operations.
16
The Automatic Sync box appears. The default condition for Animation is to be off; this is more efficient because it will set the simulation to the selected point. If Animate is activated, the simulation will run from the beginning up to the selected point.
The Automatic Sync Options are used to define the amount of detail used when the Animate option is selected. Click on the Automatic Sync Options icon to view the available options. The options will be addressed in subsequent topics so for now be aware of the active options, then close the box.

Select Modify Activity. Select a move activity to change by double clicking on the trajectory or selecting it from the PPR tree. Use the Recorder toolbar to make any changes to the move and record them. The delete icon will remove a move activity without the need to open it.
The advantage of Auto Sync over Editing or Deleting a Move Activity is that the entire simulation (world data model) is updated and synchronized to this modification. Expert users frequently turn on this function when making their original move activities.

From the Simulation Activity Creation toolbar, select the Viewpoint Activity icon. From the PPR tree, choose an item whose assembly may not be visible from the current view. When the Activity Creation Options dialog box appears, the name of the selected part will be given along with three options. If the Insert Before option is chosen, viewpoint will move to a new position before the movement begins. Insert as child will cause the viewpoint to change simultaneously, and Insert after will move the viewpoint after the process step is complete.
Viewpoint changes during activity
Do NOT click OK until the view has been manipulated to the new viewpoint. 4 Manipulate the view by rotating with the mouse, and using the zoom function to find a new viewpoint that will allow a better observation of the part movement.
When the new viewpoint is able to clearly show the parts assembly, click OK.

Create Pause and Delay Activities Insert Pause Activity Create Delay Activity Run Simulation

60
Both Pause and Delay activities are used to control the timing of the simulation without stopping it. A Pause Activity is used during the simulation to create a pause, and continues until the user chooses another option. A Delay Activity will simply cause the Simulation to hesitate for a specified amount of time. These functions will insert an opportunity for examination or discussion of a specified point in the simulation. For example, inserting a pause at a critical clash point can be useful for facilitating a discussion since the clash can be examined closely for an extended time.
More about Pause and Delay Activities can be found in the OnLine documentation
61
Select an insertion point for the pause and click OK. The pause will appear in the PPR tree.
Run the simulation to see the results. The simulation will run until it encounters the pause activity and then it will stop. The user must click on play to continue. The activity will become highlighted in the PRR tree, and the Pause Simulation dialog box will appear.

About Hyperlinks
Hyperlinks in the simulation allow the user or viewer to access additional information that is relevant at the identified point in the simulation. When a hyperlink is added to a simulation (and the simulation options are set to PAUSE) the simulation will pause at the hyperlink node so that viewers can read the hyperlinked information. For users who prefer to have the simulation options set to continue, a Pause Activity can be inserted so that viewers have time to access the hyperlinked information.
Insert a Hyperlink
Check the Simulation Options. From the Simulation toolbar, select the Simulation Options icon and locate and enable the Hyperlink and Pause Simulation Activities options. On the PPR tree, select the process activity after which the Hyperlink is to be located. Click on the Hyperlink icon on the Simulation Activity Creation toolbar. Insert the activity creation.
