Honorable Deepak Obhrai The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs 426-N Center Block House of Commons Ottawa, Ontario, K1A OA6 Canada Dear Sir:

Date: 19th September, 2012

We are the concerned Canadian citizens of Burmese Rohingya origin representing the Canadian Burmese Rohingya Organization of Canada (CBROC) would like to draw your urgent attention to what is happening in contemporary Myanmar. In June 2012, eighty eight Rohingya people (official figure as of August 22) have been killed, unofficial reports that more than a thousand died and 100,000 Rohingya people displaced by the Rakhine Buddhist mobs and Burmese security forces. It is important to note that Rohingya people were previously stripped off their Burmese citizenship. As the violence continues, Rohingyas are continually facing atrocities such as judicial killing, rape, arbitrary arrest, extortion and destruction of their home and belongings. International relief efforts are not being allowed in restrictive areas. As a matter of a planned genocide, Rohingyas are now allowed to starve to death. Under this emerging grave situation, we call upon the Foreign Affairs of Canadian Government to take immediate action against the Myanmar Government on the following issues: 1. 2. 3. 4. To urge the Myanmar government end the atrocities against Rohingya immediately and re-establish To urge the Myanmar government recognize the Rohingya as a native ethnic minority of Myanmar To repeal the 1982 Citizenship Law of Myanmar enacted by the former military regime of Ne Win. To cease the ethnic cleansing and all the human rights violations and restore their rights to

peace and harmony between Rakhine Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims. and restore their citizenship rights.

movement and right to have children and help all the recently displaced Rohingya to return to their respective homes.

5.

We also urge the Canadian government to help the international investigation commission

investigate the committing of genocidal violence in Arakan State of Myanmar. 6. In addition to the above, at this critical time of distress for the Rohingya humanity, we want the Canadian government to accelerate its effort to resettle more Rohingya to Canada. Finally, we, on behalf of the CBROC, want to thank the government for opening the diplomatic dialogue with the Government of Myanmar and Bangladesh to resolve certain long standing problems. We are grateful to the Canadian Government for its support and continued sympathy toward Rohingyas. Thank you very much.
