After ending its ties with Dutch retailer Spar International in May this year, Max Hypermarket, part of Dubai-based Landmark Group, announced that it has signed a franchise agreement with French retailer Auchan Group to develop hypermarkets in India. (Business Standard: August 13 2012). Landmark group has entered into a franchise agreement with U.S. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. to open Krispy Kreme stores in India. (Wall Street Journal: August 2012). Landmark Group targets $1 billion, or about Rs 5,500 crore, business in India in the next two years. The $4.7-billion (approx Rs 26,000 crore) group, which operates Lifestyle and Home Centre retail chains in the country, recorded revenues of about $600 million (about Rs 3,000 crore) last fiscal.
