Why We Disagree
I will tell you a little story. You have heard the eloquent speaker who has just finished say, "Let us cease from abusing each other," and he was very sorry that there should be always so much variance. But I think I should tell you a story that would illustrate the cause of this variance. A frog lived in a well. It had lived there for a long time. It was born there and brought up there, and yet was a little, small frog. Of course the evolutionists were not there then to tell us whether the frog lost its eyes or not but, for our story's sake, we must take it for granted that it had its eyes, and that it every day cleansed the water of all the worms and bacilli that lived in it with an energy that would do credit to our modern bacteriologists. In this way it went on and became a little sleek and fat. Well, one day another frog that lived in the sea came and fell into the well. "Where are you from?" "I am from the sea." "The sea! How big is that? Is it

and asked, "Is your sea so big?" "What nonsense you speak, to compare the sea with your well!" "Well, then," said the frog of the well, "nothing can be bigger than my well. There can be nothing bigger than this. This fellow is a liar, so turn him out." That has been the difficulty all the while. I am a Hindu. I am sitting in my own little well and thinking that the whole world is my little well. The Christians sit in their little well and think the whole world is their well. The Muslims sit in their little well and think that is the whole world. I have to thank you of America for the great attempt you are making to break down the barriers of this little world of ours, and hope that, in the future, the Lord will help you to accomplish your purpose.

as big as my well?" and he took a leap from one side of the well to the other. "My friend," said the frog of the sea, "how do you compare the sea with your little well?" Then the frog took another leap

and suffering, can we not die now? The purpose of birth is to avoid re-birth. Except man, all animals grow horizontally. Only man grows vertically. Instead of growing horizontally, it is God's will that he should grow vertically in order to look up. God has given to animals devices for self-protection; to man alone He has given intelligence. What is the use of education? Its first use is to develop humility (vinaya). In olden days, the disciple who went to a guru was called "vineyan" meaning a person of humility which is the hallmark of Instruction he had from his guru, the fruit of education. Education without humility is no education. Education has today become merely the means of livelihood. For true education, the student should go to a guru and follow the guru-kula system.

What is the purpose of human birth? To earn, to eat, to undergo misery everyday and finally to die? Instead of earning

Kailashnath temple at Kanchipuram

The city of thousand temples, Kanchipuram was the capital of Pallava kings during their rule from 1st to 9th century. Sanskrit poet Kalidasa says, Nagareshu Kanchi, meaning Kanchi as the best city among cities. Pallava King Narasimhavarman II built this wonderful temple which stands to attract many devotees as well as tourists who admire the beautiful sculptures that makes us so proud of our forefathers work. It is said, that Chola King Raja Raja Cholan was inspired after visiting this temple and decided to build a temple and so he built the Big temple or Brahadeeshwara temple at Thanjavur, Cholas capital. Make a visit to one of the oldest treasures of architectural marvels.

nor in Kailash: Neither am I in rites and ceremonies, nor in Yoga and renun- If I say that He is within me, the ciation. universe is ashamed: If thou art a true seeker, thou shalt at once see Me: thou shalt meet Me in a moment of time. Kabr says, "O Sadhu! God is the breath of all breath." The flower blooms for the fruit: when the fruit comes, the flower withers. O SERVANT, where dost thou seek Me? Lo! I am beside thee. I am neither in temple nor in mosque: I am neither in Kaaba ..The musk is in the deer, but it seeks it not within itself: it wanders in quest of grass. O HOW may I ever express that secret word?...... If I say that He is without me, it is falsehood. He makes the inner and the outer worlds to be indivisibly one; The conscious and the unconscious, both are His footstools. He is neither manifest nor hidden, He is neither revealed nor unrevealed: There are no words to tell that which He is. O how can I say He is not like this, and He is like that? p. 53

These wonderful children from Thiruvarur, raised many thought provoking questions including why there was no medal for a team sport for Indian team in Olympics? Their delivery of speech was so wonderful that all eyes/ears were with them when they took stage. The donor family on the day fell at the feet of elders in the Sevashram and sought blessings, even though they had economically and emotionally supported the children and elders of the Sevashram...This was very inspiring.

Inspiring to Inspire others

Blood donation camp in Chettinad Vidyashram took place in June...A wonderful way to help those who need blood and to inspire students to live for others.

The students of P S Sr Sec School, Community Club visited NIMMADI, a home for the aged run by WAR WIDOWS WELFARE ASSOCIATION. At the International German Olympiad conducted in Frankfurt between the 1st and 14th of July ,Dhruva Bhat of Class XII of P S Senior Sec. School, Chennai represented India in the B2 category and won the Bronze medal. Nearly 75kg of rice was collected from classes I to VIII of Bala Vidya Mandir, Chennai as part of their Karuna Club initiative. It was donated to the Blue Cross. Feel, live for the needy fellow sisters and brother and share with them. The Olcott Memorial High school, Chennai has a wonderful rule, that every student collect at least 10 pieces of garbage a day. This is a way to remove the stigma of waste picking. Teachers join the students in doing cleaning drive as they begin the day. Cleaning your class room, schools, homes, streets, city the way to keep country clean. Children Garden Schools are able to provide children with rice, pulses vegetables, coconuts, and by-products (oil), as well as with fresh milk and milk products from their agricultural farms. Self reliance the way forward.
