Cameraperson Journal 1. What is the role of the cameraperson? The role of the camera person is to ensure that they capture enough appropriate footage, which can then be edited down to create the final production. The camera person must have a good understanding and knowledge of how to use a camera, and have a good understanding of all the different shot types and angles that can be used for different effects. 2. Why did I take on this role? I decided to take on the role as the cameraperson as it is a role I have never taken on before, and I love a challenge. In AS Media Studies, I was the director and never got the chance to be the cameraperson, so, at A2 I quickly stepped to the opportunity of being the camera person. During AS Media, while filming our production then, I closely watched our cameraman film our piece and watched him positioning the camera and discuss with me what different shot types we should use. This also made me want to take on the responsibility of being the camera person as the different shot types and angles interested me. 3. What did the role involve? The role involved ensuring I captured enough suitable footage, so that our editor had enough footage to successfully edit down to our final 5 minute short film. I had to ensure I had a good understanding of shot types such as mid shot, extreme close up, and a good knowledge of a range of angles such as eye level and canted angle, so I had a wide range of shots and angles that I could use throughout the filming process, so our film would have a more professional look to it if it had a range of different shot types. To ensure I knew how to use the camera to the best of my ability, I scanned the internet using websites such as YouTube watching tutorials, and also asking the media teachers. For the most part of filming, I worked extremely closely with the director of our group Jaspreet Hanspal, as she as the director knew exactly how she wanted our film to come across. So, before hand we discussed the vision she had for the film, and while during filming we both continuously asked questions to each other to ensure we was both putting her vision into reality. 4. Did I encounter any problems while filming? As I had never filmed before, or used a Sony Z1 camera before, it was inevitable that I was going to encounter problems throughout filming as I wasnt used to this piece of technology. Some of the problems I encountered during filming included:

- Lighting issues: in areas such as the bedroom and as the evening progressed, the natural light that was coming was decreasing, therefore, not making our film not look as professional. However, we overcame this by using the camera light. - Forgetting how to use certain aspects of the camera: I had never used a Sony Z1 camera before, and wasnt use to the multiple buttons and functions the camera had to offer, so it was inevitable I was going to forget how to use certain elements of the camera. However, I overcame this by watching tutorials before filming, and during filming if I forgot, which prolonged the filming process, but in the long run ensured our film was as professional as could be, as I had taken the time and effort to ensure the elements I was using on the camera were used to the best of their ability. 5. What did I gain from this role? I gained a greater understanding of the Sony Z1 camera and how to use the majority of its components and features, so I could take on the role again if I had the opportunity to confidently. I further developed my communication skills, as I had to communicate efficiently with the director to ensure the film was what she envisioned.
