KOSHISH - An Attempt
The frenzy on the campus is a bit unnerving for an educational campus.... students yelling, faculty most passionate, and bunches of them cheering to the point of screaming. It is very unlike the regular campus with everyone rushing and scooting towards some direction. Definitely, each one of them, with the most important errand at hand!!! Koshish symbolizes the endeavor, the evolution and the constant spirit to try, and yet in the same breath, it comprises a single resounding note on failure as well. Without failure it is either complacency. Of course, without failure, one would be so fierce an individual, that it is hard to conjure or fathom such a figure in one's mind. All the years lead by not one person has stood tall enough to absolute complete flawless perfection. And that is exactly what Koshish is about. To work, put in the best, and strive to achieve. Yet, more importantly be graceful enough to accept, whence you discover a better exists. We have all had some share of winning or losing. It is wonderfully glorious to hold that shield in hand, but what fun is it if it only fills you with pride eventually. It is humiliating to suffer defeat at times, but why even bother to participate if that defeat only fills you with profound grief or

vehement anger and hampers your next participation? Koshish is not about a winner or a looser who could not taking either in his stride. Koshish is about learning, trying, falling, taking on challenges, achieving, appreciating good, helping meek, striving for oneself, and evolving as better eventually. If you are a part of this Koshish, I promise you - you were luckier than many others in the world, who never had the opportunity to grow thus. Celebrate that.

Giddha The Inherit Treasure

The energy of participants is extraordinary.. no wonders why people call Dance is life

Giddha is a popular heritage folk dance of women in Punjab and exhibits teasing, fun and exuberance of Punjabi life. The dance is derived from the ancient ring dance and is just as energetic as Bhangra and at the same time it manages to creatively display feminine grace, elegance and elasticity. Giddha is essentially danced in circles. Girls form rings and one of the dancers sit in the centre of this ring with a dholki (drum). The vitality of Bhangra can also be seen in the Giddha dance of the women of Punjab. This dance translates into gestures, bolian-verses of different length satirizing politics. The dancers enact verses called bolis, which represent folk poetry at its best. The subject matter of these bolis is wide ranging indeed everything from arguments with the sister-in-law to political affairs figure in these lively songs - bolis can also cover themes from nature to excesses committed by the husband and his relatives, some talk about love affairs to the loneliness of a bride separated from her groom. No musical instruments, except a dholak accompanies Giddha and provides the rhythm for the dance. The distinctive hand-claps of the dancers is a prominent feature of this art-form. Giddha is a very vigorous folk dance and like other such dances of Northern India is taxing on the legs of the artists. Most commonly girls dance in twos. One participant generally sings the boli and when the last but one line is reached, the tempo of the song rises and all start dancing together. In this manner bolis alternate with the dance sequence which continue for a considerable period of time. Gidda dance is stylistically simple. The Punjabi salwar, kameez or lehnga rich in color and decoration is worn. Jingle of the bells, thumping of the feet, beat of the drum and the splendor of Punjabi women in their striking traditional dress creates an enchanting atmosphere. Girls of PCTE started preparing for the event almost a month ago Koshish, I remember at the early mornings students used to visit the campus and encountered the campus lawns and other spots to do rehearsals. Teams contributed huge amount of bucks to afford finest of the coaches around the region, on the other hand some preferred sticking to their own caliber and innovation for the event showcase on stage. May be it is because of such college festivals /events that we still have the residue of rich heritage culture/folk dance in our hearts.

Soft-Ware Development The Hard Task

Software development is the development of a software product. The term "software development" is used to refer to the activity of computer programming, which is the process of writing and maintaining the source code, but in a broader sense of the term it includes all that is involved between the conception of the desired software through to the final manifestation of the software, ideally in a planned and structured process. Therefore, software development includes research, new development, prototyping, modification, reuse, re-engineering, maintenance, or any other activities that result in software products. For targeting this approach PCTE has put up an event in KOSHISH under the name of software development. The only motive behind this exercise is that to raise the level of students up to the industries standard. It is treated as an event of computer science departments but any student from different stream can participate and win the prize. As per the technology moving very fast these day, the level of this event is also moving very fast every year. This time there was software on embedded system, Android application, Text to speech etc in Koshish. Department of computer science arranged a workshop on embedded system and also on android application and lot of students from BCA / MCA / MSC joined and took benefits from these workshop and the same kind of enthusiasm was there in this event. The same kind of application designed in this event shows the positive relation of conducting workshop in PCTE campus as well the interest of students towards their studies not only act as book worm but also having the practical exposure on latest technology. But I must say that PCTEians performed very good to accomplish this hard task of soft development.

Sikh Marshall Art

It is not just martial technique, there is a lot of oral tradition and linguistic skills that has to be there as well

The audience came to a new awakening when Amandeep Singh M.Sc IT and Harpreet Singh BBA 1 D performed Gatka (Sikh Martial Art) on stage. The Tradition has been practiced from years and is a very energetic, vibrant art form inspired a lot from warriors. Both of the students did some spectacular stunts on stage which resulted even in some minor wounds which were negotiable keeping the aura of the art in mind. People usually ask me if I feel afraid of injuries while performing but honestly I feel God along with me while I find myself lost into the art Amandeep Singh said after the Guest Performance.

Best Teacher Award

Teachers are the real builders and transformers of any nation-with this thought PCTE Group of Institutes started this noble event of Best Teacher Awards in the year 2008. This year after the long survey done among the students of PCTE, 10 Teachers were selected from the various schools in the region to be recognized. Students and Teachers both felt nostalgic as they received awards from respected Mrs. Perminder Kaur-Vice Chairperson PCTE Group of Institutes and Dr. KNS Kang Chairman cum Director General, PCTE Group of Institutes. All the teachers were more than happy and proud to receive the honour from PCTE.

Audience Speaks ..
We all speak, watch, admire & criticize the performances and participants but in all this we almost forget the audience infact ourselves, we need to know that the participants performing on stage are among one of us and the performances would not be that special without the audience. Its the audience only which can provide honest adjudication for any performance, the noise of claps, the voice of hooting and the cheering notions matter while the Judges mark the performance upto great extent. Thus as a writer I would here like to grab this opportunity to Congratulate the Audience of Koshish-2012 as the festival ends gracefully and Ignites hope in many minds to perform much better next year. I can even observe few of them stating to start the preparation for the next year Koshish as if a year will pass with a wink of eyes.. I know it would like a hangover of the festival on students for coming 4-5 days but yes its true that Koshish has & will remain in a special place of our hearts . While the festival went over, I was able to notify some the interesting comments of audience from my subconscious mind. The most common one is Ye kya performance h...isse acha to main gaa leta hun (whats so special in this performance I can sing much better than this) This one I find really funny. It was Business plan where one gentleman with perfectly tucked in shirt wearing a shiny suit was wondering in the crowd of participants when one of his classmate screamed Oye aa ki payea tu. Viaah vich aaya h kya(hey man what you wearing as if you are roaming in a marriage party). This type of tete-a-tete is always murmuring around which adds to the soul of the event. I hope all of us enjoyed the festival and had a great time, we all wish to be luckier enough to participate in the next Koshish. Till then lets call Peace !!
