Dear friends,

Embracing the KEYS to success: Faith, Knowledge, and Unity

Our new school year is off to a great start with abundant excitement! We begin our 58th year during the Year of Faith, which our Holy Father, Pope Benedict, has proclaimed. As he reminded our Bishops a few months ago: "Catholic Schools remain an essential resource for the new evangelization." We fully embrace the Churchs call for the new evangelization and hope that the Year of Faith will provide us the grace we need to undertake it in our school and among our students.

SPS Grandparents Day

On Wednesday, September 12, SPS was happy to honor the grandparents of its students. Following Holy Mass, maw maws and paw paws were invited to visit the school. After a short reception where they posed for a commemorative photo with their grandchildren, grandparents visited the various classrooms. There, the students presented sayings of their grandparents, facts about their lives, favorite songs, and other things. It was a great day for all!

Of course, time flies, and we have already reached the mid-point of the first 9 weeks. Our small classes continue to provide for a more personal and hands-on instruction by our teachers. Please continue to encourage your children to do their best with their studiesand we will continue to give our best for them!

Be assured of our prayers for you as our students gather for the morning assembly, and most especially at the weekly Wednesday celebration of Holy Mass. Thank you for your prayerful and generous support of SPS!

The focus of the religion program this year is centered upon the Year of Faith beginning on October 11, which the Holy Father has proclaimed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council and the 20th anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We will focus on one of the four major documents of the Second Vatican Council each quarter. Look out for how your children learn more about opening their minds and hearts to faithbelieved, celebrated, and lived!

Our gratitude is expressed to the Br. Andre Council of the Knights of Columbus here in Gueydan for providing a new brick pedestal for the statue of Our Lady in the center of the schools courtyard. Its a great and beautiful addition!

The SPS Jr Beta Club, under the direction of Mrs. Becky Hardee and Mrs. Joan Lee, recently held a garage sale fundraiser. It proved to be a great success, providing for all of the Jr Beta Clubs needs. In addition, it was a great help to the local community. Many items were purchased at great prices, left over items were donated to the Arc of Vermilion, and a gift card was presented to Monica Lemaire and her family, whose life was recently affected by a house fire. Thanks to all who supported the SPS Jr Beta Club by generously donating or buying items! More to Come!
SPS Barbecue fundraiser! Thanks to all who helped to make the annual SPS Barbecue fundraiser a great success! This year, we decided to hold it a month early, and we are grateful for the generous response of the community! Your support of Catholic Education in our community of Gueydan is greatly appreciated!
