Drawing and Painting Drawing Fundamentals (2012/7-D1) Nov. 2 Dec. 7, F 2:00 5:00 pm In this class students tackle the fundamentals of good drawing. Students work from life and photographs, using different techniques, and build good drawing habits. Instructor: Todd Carignan Intermediate Drawing 2012/7-D2 Oct. 30 Dec. 4, T 9:30 am 12:30 pm This class focuses on drawing environments. The class includes exploration of perspective and drawing interiors and architecture, figures and landscapes. Instructor: Todd Carignan Life Drawing Group - Evening (2012/7-LDG1) Tuesdays, 6:00 9:00 pm Ongoing Life drawing group meets on a continuing basis in the CAM Reception Hall. Painting with oils and acrylics and modeling with clay and wax are allowed in addition to dry media and watercolor in Studio I. Seven sessions for $70. There is no beginning or ending date. Painting With Watercolor (2012/7-PWC1) Nov. 1 Dec. 6, Th 6:00 9:00 pm This watercolor class for beginner and intermediate level participants continues and expands instruction on drawing, composition and color. Students are encouraged to make observations on color, perspective and composition for paintings that can be developed in the studio. Topics covered include composition, perspective, values studies, washes with black and sepia, color theory and harmonies, painting architecture and landscapes and botanicals. Instructor: Fritz Kapraun Color and Composition in Painting: Oil, Acrylic or Watercolor (2012/7-P1) Nov. 2 Dec. 7, Fri. 9:30 am to 12:30 pm This is a studio class for both beginner and advanced painters focusing on fundamentals of color and composition. Working with in-studio setups or a photo of choice, this class addresses fundamentals of color theory and composition which will enable a more dynamic and richer level of artwork. A vital, exciting element in todays collage work is found in the range of surface treatments. Using both traditional and contemporary approaches as starting points, students learn techniques of surface manipulation creating richly textured materials for collage. Instructor: Donna Moore

Sculpture and Fine Craft Intermediate Rug Hooking (2012/7-RH1) Nov. 1, 8, 15, Th 2:00 5:00 pm Take rug hooking to the next step. Students learn how to create their own pattern and transfer it to the backing, how to color plan designs and how to dye the wool for each project. A basic knowledge of rug hooking is needed for this class. Instructor: Judy Quintman

Photography DSLR Camera and Basic Digital Photography (2012/7-PH1) Oct. 30 Dec. 4, T 7:00 9:00 pm Students learn the parts and functions of the DSLR camera. Use of the controls on the camera to alter shutter speed, aperture, and light sensitivity is explained as well as digital workflow, file types/management and storage. Students are introduced to basic image manipulation through demonstration, using computers and software. Instructor: Alan Cradick Creative Writing, Evocative Photography Each Better with the Other (2012/7-PHW-1) Oct. 31 Dec. 5, W 6:00 8:00 pm Ever wondered if your writing illustrates your photography? Does your photography illustrate your writing? Join writer Michelle Bliss and photographer Alan Cradick as they explore how each supports and expands the understanding of the reader. Students gain a better understanding of each medium while learning the tools necessary to blend the two into an integrated whole. The class results in a hard bound book of the collected work. Creative Writing Writers Workshop (2012/7-W1) Nov. 1 Dec. 13, Th 6:00 8:00 pm The Writers' Workshop is specifically geared toward experienced writers who are already working on a specific project and are looking for thoughtful feedback on a consistent basis. Students pursuing a novel, a memoir, a short story or poetry collection, or several literary projects, are invited to join this workshop. The Writers Workshop encourages writers to share and critique each other's work each week, so the focus is on revision instead of invention. Writing is often viewed as a solitary craft, but every writer needs a support team along the way! Instructor: Michelle Bliss Memory & Metaphor (2012/7-W2) Nov.1 Dec. 13, Th 6:30 8:30 pm Memory and Metaphor is a creative writing workshop encouraging participants to tap into their memories to create distinctive image-driven writing and naturally occurring metaphor. The six-week series is composed of in-class and take home exercises and is appropriate for all levels of writers and all genres of writing. Emphasis is placed on introduction to a wide array of materials and individual personal expression. ADULT 1 AND 2 DAY WORKSHOPS Drawing and Painting with Pastels (Two-day workshop) (2012/7DP1) Saturday, Oct. 27, 10:00 am 4:00 pm & Sunday, Oct. 28, 1:00 pm 4:00 pm Drawing and painting in pastels is for beginners and intermediates. Students use soft (not oil) pastels to create images from still life as well as land and seascapes from photographs. Instructor: Bonnie Rogers Hand Papermaking (Two-day workshop) (2012/7-HPM1) Saturday, Oct. 27, 9:00 am 4:00 pm and & Sunday, Oct. 28, 10:00 am 2:00 pm The workshop will focus on making paper by hand using a variety of fibers, which will include some plant and recycled fibers. Students are exposed to a variety of techniques practiced by various cultures throughout history. Western style papermaking, combined with Eastern drying techniques, will be addressed, as well as options for dimensional paper. No prior experience necessary, but those who have experience, please bring your enthusiasm and questions or challenges. Instructor: Fritzi Huber

Nov. 3 Sat. 10:00 am 4:00 pm Learn the basics of working in collage / mixed media with the goal of creating paintings that tell a story. Gain an understanding of attaching paper to surfaces, preparing papers with different media, recycling old drawings and paintings, using photos and ephemera, photo transfer techniques, and paper cutting techniques. Instructor: Abby Spangel Perry Pine Needle Basketry Cork Bowl (One-day workshop) (2012/7-B1) Nov. 4 Sun. 12:00 4:00 pm Some experience in pine needle basketry is encouraged to participate in this skill-building class. Students make a pine needle coiled bowl form around a cork center. The traditional method of coiling will be taught. Students will learn how to start, increase coils to the appropriate size, and add beads, buttons, and black walnuts to embellish the rim. All supplies furnished for this project. Instructor: Melanie Walter Introduction to Watercolor (One-day workshop) (2012/7-PWC3) Nov. 10 - Sat. 10:00 am 4:00 pm Students are introduced to materials, tools and useful techniques, using the watercolor medium. Included in the workshop are practice exercises using washes, glazes, giving form to shapes, mixing color and understanding value relationships. No grades, no pressure, no right way to paint. Students furnished with a basis for finding a unique way of representing objects and learning to see. Instructor: Betty Brown Paste Papers (One-day workshop) (2012/7-PP1) Nov. 17 Sat. 10:00 am 2:00 pm Students create beautifully decorated papers of appropriate sizes to accommodate package wrapping, wine bottle carriers, origami boxes, notecards, all with the coming holidays in mind. An ideal workshop for making something handmade this season to give as a gift. There will be some origami folding exercises as well. Nov. 24 Sat. 10:00 am 4:00 pm This class offers a short talk on the history of encaustic painting followed by an overview of set-up procedures and tools and supplies. Students begin painting with a goal of completing 3-5 small works. There are two separate sessions on this class on successive Saturdays. Each is a stand-alone class, but students from the first class may continue their study with the second class. Instructor: Charles Robertson
