SINGLE PHASE HALF CONTROLLED CONVERTERS WITH R & R-L LOADS FOR CONTINUOUS AND DISCONTINUOUS CONDUCTION MODES AIM: To study the operation of single phase half controlled converter with R and R-L load using single phase SCR converter module. APPARATUS REQUIRED: 1. Chopper/Inverter PWM controller (PEC 16HV2B) 2. SCR device module (PEC 16HV4D) 3. R & R-L load 4. Patch Chords FORMULA USED: Output Voltage (Vo): Vm- Maximum Voltage (V) Firing Angle THEORY: Semi converter Controlled rectifiers are those whose output voltage can be controlled by varying the firing angle of the SCR. During the positive half-cycle. SCR1 & D2 a re forward biased and starts conducting when trigger pulses are given simultaneo usly. During negative half-cycle SCR2& D1 are forward biased and it starts condu cting. In the trigger circuit synchronization must be obtained from the supply v oltage other than SCR voltage and trigger pulse must be continuous during the co nduction period. CONNECTION PROCEDURE: 1) Connect the power chords of the power module and the controller module t o the supply main. 2) Connect 1 AC input supply from 1 autotransformer to the power module at phas e (Red) and neutral (Black) terminals. 3) Connect PWM output of the controller module to PWM input of the power mo dule using pulse cable. 4) Connect cathode terminal of SCR1 (K1) and cathode terminal SCR3 (K3) usi ng patch chords. 5) Connect anode terminal of diode1 (KD1) to anode terminal of diode2 (KD2) . 6) Connect SCR pulse correspondingly (G1, K1), (G3, K3) & (G4, K4) from the output of pulse isolator section to corresponding SCR s in the power circuit. 7) Connect across the R/ R-L load to cathode of SCR3 (k3) and anode of diod e (KD2) . EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE: 1) Verify the connection as per the connection procedure and circuit diagra m. 2) Turn On the main supply. 3) Switch on the power to both the single phase SCR power module and the co ntroller module by turning the On/Off switch in both modules to ON. 4) Now the LCD displays the following one by one with a few seconds of dela y. 5) Now select single phase SCR converter by using increment key, the LCD wi ll display as below. 6) Turn On the PWM switch in the controller module, also turn on the MCB in the power module. 7) Vary the autotransformer and keep a fixed source voltage. 8) Vary the firing angle 0 to 1800 by using the increment key and decrement key. The voltage can be varied from minimum to maximum. Note down the readings voltage and firing angle.
