Course Overview and Course objectives This is a capstone course, which integrates all business functions. Emphasis is on developing business strategies, discussing different levels of strategies and developing a business plan for organizations. A student who has successfully complete the course is expected to be able:

To develop conceptual skills so that the student is able to integrate previously learned aspects of corporations. To develop a framework of analysis to enable the student to identify central issues and problems in complex, comprehensive cases, to suggest alternative courses of action, and to present well supported recommendations for future actions. To develop an understanding of strategic management concepts, research and theories. To develop an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officer and other key managers in the strategic management positions. To develop the ability to analyze and evaluate the performance of the people responsible for strategic management. To bridge the gap between theory and practice by developing an understanding of when and how to apply concepts and techniques learned in earlier courses on marketing, financial management and production and operations management. To improve the research capabilities necessary to gather and interpret key environmental data To develop a better understanding of the present and future environments within which corporations must function. To develop and refine analytical and decision making skills for dealing with complex conceptual problems. To be able to write a business plan

Course Guidelines: Students are to read the class assignment and the chapter questions beforehand in order to enrich the class discussion. Maximum class participation is expected and encouraged. Participation grades are earned through active contribution to class discussion and not just for attending class. Makeup exams are NOT given, except under exceptional circumstances.

Note: There are no make-up exams, except under exceptional conditions Chapter Quizzes The chapter quizzes will be conducted in class each week for the assigned chapter reading. Attendance As stated in the university catalog, students are expected to attend class; there is no system of permitted absences. Students may not normally receive credit for a course if more than three weeks of classes (or their equivalent in summer school) are missed.

Participation Points Description 3 Makes frequent and significant contributions to class discussions. Enriches class debates with well-thought insights that go beyond assigned material and contributes to peers learning. Occasional participation in class discussions. Answers questions when asked.
