SOUTHERN LIGHTS
Hi, Im T.R.Josset and I like making music. This album was really fun to make and it compiles what I consider to be my best work from 2010 to 2012. The songs on it are about this and that, mostly that, and I hope youll enjoy them as much as I enjoyed playing them. I recorded everything myself in my apartment and mixed the whole thing as well. Im mostly influenced by traditional music and Blues. Thats why I had to have songs like Quite Early Morning or See That My Grave Is Kept Clean on here. In this little book youll have the lyrics to all the songs and also see the instruments I used. If you want to hear and see more (because I also make short videos) you can get other stuff I make here :

The Guitars

THE FIRST
Yamaha F39PJ

My very first guitar. A very plain ordinary Yamaha Steel String guitar. Usually strung with Martin SP Extra Light strings, its been with me for some time now. Youll hear it on : Cayenne Southern Lights The Eyes of Nowhere Under That Tree See That My Grave Is Kept Clean I know That Im Sure Blue Birds House Of The Rising Sun Moonshine Zombie, Zombie, Zombie Its the guitar I pick up when I just want to play a little and its also the one that Ill use to support the rythmic section in a multi-instrument song. It has a few hits on the neck from playing with my rings giving it its own story. All in all, a versatile guitar with a lot of sentimental value albeit its very standard sound !

KRYSTALLONIROS
Fender American Standard Stratocaster HSS

The first electric guitar I ever bought. A Fender American Standard Stratocaster HSS. It is usually strung with Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings. I found it in a music store in West Chester, Pennsylvania after having tried several different Fenders. I remember the feeling when the salesman put it on my lap to try it out. It was like the most comfortable shoe ever, as if it was made exactly for me ; a perfect fit. I named it Krystalloniros which means Ice Dream in Greek for its color : Blizzard Pearl. Youll hear it on : Cayenne Black Flowers Southern Lights House Of The Rising Sun Zombie, Zombie, Zombie Walk Home With Me

Obviously, since it is my very first electric guitar, it is irreplaceable and its sound is the best according to me.

SAMANTHA
Recording King MG 10

This is Samantha, my Resophonic Single Cone guitar. Its usually strung with Martin Marquis Medium strings and it really does have that twangy spirit when you play it. I always wanted a resonator guitar to play some blues. I didnt know the brand Recording King before I bought it and was really pleasantly surprise for it was pretty cheap and man can it play ! A really powerful guitar, you can ask my neighbors, that gets the job done wether youre fingerpicking, sliding or whatever. Youll hear it on : Sunday Blues Black Flowers Southern Lights Blue Birds Caution, it really has a particular sound and its eager to show what it can do. I still cant believe how loud she can play.

She is my blues guitar, my Delta presence, my Samantha.

ROADKILL JIMMY
Gibson ES-3339

Roadkill Jimmy is a Gibson ES-3339 usually strung with Ernie Ball Regular Slinky strings. Its really really fun to play and, paired with the right amp, has that twangy country sound I love so much. Roadkill Jimmy was found in the streets of Paris in its case by a friends sister. The headstock was held on by a few shards of wood and the strings. I couldnt believe anybody would leave this gem of a guitar in such a state in the middle of the street. I had it repaired in Paris for a pretty good price (close to a fifth of the actual retail price of the guitar) and named it Roadkill Jimmy. Youll hear it on : Sunday Blues Black Flowers Southern Lights House Of The Rising Sun Moonshine Walk Home With Me Built in Memphis, Tennessee, she has a special place in my heart for its southern origins.

THE BANJO
Fender Banjo

Ah, the Banjo. First of all, I find it to be a very curious instrument and, as you know, you cant play a sad song on a banjo. This one was loaned to me by my brother. I dont know which model it is and to tell you the truth, I never changed the strings on it. Theyre all rusty and your fingers get all dirty playing it. Still, I never broke a string on it and playing with those Ernie Ball picks thats quite amazing ! I took it from Philadelphia to Washington, DC, to Zurich, Switzerland to Paris, France all by plane in one day ; that was fun. Youll hear it on : - Sunday Blues - Southern Lights - Quite Early Morning - Blue Birds - Moonshine - Zombie, Zombie, Zombie

This is a really fun instrument to play and I just love it.

THE UKULELE
Harley Benton Ukulele

This Ukulele cost me about 20 bucks. Honestly, the paint job sucks, the sound is a little below standard, theres something wrong with the fretboard,... But I expected that for so cheap and thats why I got it in white so that everyone whod stop by my place could write a little something on it. Theres some weird stuff on there and I wont go in the details. Although this one is a bit crap, I do love the Ukulele for its tuning and cheery character. Youll only hear it on : - I Know That Im Sure

Always fun to pick up, always fun to play, but I still have a lot of work to do on it even if its sound sucks.

The Lyrics

SUNDAY BLUES
Just a cup of coffee on my front porch Just a cigar loose at my lips The sun is high way up in the sky It's burning my neck as my head tips I see them people walking by and by Hurrying to do whatever they do But I keep on drinking and smoking cigars There ain't nobody gonna tell me what to do I'm free to sing and relaxing Took my socks off and my shoes Lit another cigar on my porch And I'll keep enjoying this Sunday Blues

The preacher comes up to me for a talk He says Where have you been my dear son ? You missed church this morning, that's a sin You could have really used my sermon. I says No no no get out of my sight ! I don't need your words to be free. Im here on my porch chilling nicely Im smoking cigars and Drinking coffee. Well son, the preacher replies, I can't say the lord really approves But I don't care Im smoking cigars And I'll keep on enjoying this Sunday Blues.

As I gently fall asleep My woman comes to me and says Come on baby Lets go upstairs and enjoy the bed I want you to make me feel like a lady. I look at my cup and it's still half full My cigar box is pratically new I look at my woman so fine and pretty She didn't appreciate the smoke rings I blew I say I'm sorry baby but understand that today I won't do my manly dues. I'll stay on this porch with coffee and cigars and I'll keep enjoying this Sunday Blues.

CAYENNE (Traditional)

BLACK FLOWERS
There was a picture of you next to my bed I can't remember anything we said Now there's only a bottle and an empty glass Each drop I drink drills holes in the past. We were supposed to die together So we should've cared for one another But I never thought the day'd come When I'd hate you more than my own reflexion You'll never be any of your dreams Because I drowned all those memories There's nothing left anymore I'll leave some black flowers on your grave I'll leave some black flowers on your grave Just stop looking at me I'll leave some black flowers on your grave You know you're not as disappointed as I am ashamed I know that where I am wasn't where you aimed I can't even say I tried to be what you wanted I need to put you down because you're way too wounded. Yet I fail because of how you look at me I'll never succeed because I can't break free So I'll kill your dreams and burn them down Because I can't bare seeing your dirty frown There's one last thing I have to do Is remember what I did to you And I'll leave something on your grave Knowing there's nothing left anymore I'll leave some black flowers on your grave I'll leave some black flowers on your grave Just stop looking at me I'll leave some black flowers on your grave You'll never be any of your dreams Because I drowned all those memories Its done finished you failed and it's not me It's not me You'll never be what you dreamed

SOUTHERN LIGHTS
When I look to south Coffee and smoke from my mouth I can see your deep brown eyes I can see the sun rise. And the burnt dust is flying And it gives me a troubling feeling As if the past would never return But neither will it adjourn The heat and the cold Everything, then nothing Within and withhold Freezing then burning Southern lights are burning my eyes Southern lights are burning my soul Southern lights are burning my eyes Southern lights are burning my soul As I finish my cup of cold coffee And let go of my burned out smoke Now its you hair that I can see And soon your whole body it evokes. And the lights are shinning much brighter And my head is throbbing much harder. Theres sand seeping from my hand And running down back to the land The heat and the cold Everything, then nothing Within and withhold Freezing then burning Southern lights are burning my eyes Southern lights are burning my soul Southern lights are burning my eyes Southern lights are burning my soul

GAZING THROUGH THE EYES OF NOWHERE

In the desert we can't see For it's too bright and dry But it's the same by the sea And anyways we don't want to try We hear the voice of the past Clashing with those of the future But we can't run that fast and everything is a blur So we gazed though the eyes of nowhere Looking for Something that's fair Hoping for more than despair But knowing that it'll never be there. It'll soon be all over They say we shouldn't dream So we stay home doing nothing And soon that's our only theme As we stare at the walls thinking Though we tried to fight They buried us with their stares And we can't bare the plight. Because we know no one cares So we gazed though the eyes of nowhere Looking for Something that's fair Hoping for more than despair But knowing that it'll never be there. It'll soon be all over One day everything will explode And they'll say nobody warned Knowing that change is a long road We'll always write what we wrote And nowhere could become anywhere Nobody could be anybody Hope will trump despair And in the future we might all be free So we gaze through the eyes of somewhere Finally there's Something there Hoping that we'll soon get there Knowing that everyone could share Itll soon be all over

UNDER THAT TREE

Under that Tree I met someone Under that tree I loved someone One look at me and I come undone One glance at me and I come undone There's a secret between the both of us There's something new between the both of us I can hear the army growing near I can hear the marching growing near I just hope you have no fear I don't think you have no fear. You know my tears will never stop I'll keep on pinning, I'lll never stop Under that tree, I'll wait for you. Under that tree I'll cry for you Every word I'll hear will wear me down All the news I'll get will wear me down In a few months we'll be three If you come back we'll be three When I think at you, I remember a lot When I think at you, I tear up a lot I'm worried you'll never come back I have nightmares you'll never come back I can see that army car getting close How I've feared that army car getting close Under that tree we're only two Under that tree no more than two And I've been crying ever since the news Yes I've been dying ever since the news

QUITE EARLY MORNING (Traditional)

Don't you know it's darkest before the dawn And it's this thought keeps me moving on If we could heed these early warnings The time is now quite early morning If we could heed these early warnings The time is now quite early morning Some say that humankind won't long endure But what makes them so doggone sure ? I know that you who hear my singing Could make those freedom bells go ringing I know that you who hear my singing Could make those freedom bells go ringing And so wa keep on while we live Until we have no, no more to give And when these fingers can strum no longer Hand the old banjo to young ones stronger And when these fingers can strum no longer Hand the old banjo to young ones stronger So though it's darkest before the dawn These thoughts keep us moving on Through all this world of joy and sorrow We still can have singing tomorrows Through all this world of joy and sorrow We still can have singing tomorrows

SEE THAT MY GRAVE IS KEPT CLEAN (Blind Lemon Jefferson)

Well there's one kind of favor I'll ask for you Well there's one kind of favor I'll ask for you There's just one kind of favor I'll ask for you You can see that my grave is kept clean. And there's two white horses following me And there's two white horses following me I got two white horses following me Waiting on my burying ground. Did you ever hear them church bells toll Did you ever hear them church bells toll Did you ever hear them church bells toll Means another poor boy is dead and gone. And my heart stopped beating and my hands turned cold And my heart stopped beating and my hands turned cold And my heart stopped beating and my hands turned cold Now I believe what the Bible told. There's just one last favor I'll ask for you And there's one last favor I'll ask for you There's just one last favor I'll ask for you See that my grave is kept clean.

I KNOW THAT IM SURE

They say you should always move forward But I've been stuck so long I'm bored And there's no point trying to leave this black I know that I'm sure I'll never be back I don't want to change anything I wish I knew what was my thing Sure I'll keep on looking but know That I dream of moving far away I hate leaving you all behind though But there'll never be a "someday"

I find an empty seat quite easily It'll be nice with no one next to me And as the train makes its first turn I know that I'm sure I'll never return One last look behind I'm feeling funny in my mind I see all your faces looking at me And I have nothing more to say I see all my friends by that tree Asking me if I can stay

I've been gone three years now I should have written but never knew how It's been so long ago it's hard And yet I get your christmas cards It may be better today I have money to spend away But one thing I never found again Was people like all of you Although I know I could always take that train I know that I'm sure it was adieu

BLUE BIRDS
Blue birds in the sky None of which I can see A few words by and by with you looking down at me The only window in the room is wide open A warm Spring breeze is blowing right through You're braking down, water in your eyes again 'cause We both know I won't see you tomorrow Please dont cry Dont be sad I worked and tried Was it worth it all ? I never really thought so We're laughing we're crying Oh painful memories I know both of us are hoping But have opposite dreams Tell me, does it make sense to you ? Because it sure as hell doesn't to me. Soon it's time to leave, you know it's true Because we both know I won't see you tomorrow Please dont cry Dont be sad I worked and tried Was it worth it all ? I never really saw the point

I know you want me to stay But I can't find out why You say you pray everyday I don't really want to reply The window is half closed now it's dark outside The birds stopped but they're still out there I better get packing, get ready for my long ride Because we both know I won't see you tomorrow Please dont cry Dont be sad I worked and tried Was it worth it all ? I guess Ill find out soon

They make you leave the room And finally I'm all alone I hope it'll be over soon Frightening is the unknown The window's shut, but a last blue bird lands He sadly sits outside looking down on me I can't hear his singing, I try to stand And then everything turns pitch black Goodbye friend Dont think twice One last thing I regret every moment But its too late now

HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN (Traditional)

There is a house down in New Orleans They call the rising sun And it's been the ruin of many a poor girl And me, oh god, Im one My mother was a tailor She sewed these new blue jeans My sweetheart was a gambler Down in New Orleans The only thing a gambler needs Is a suitcase and a trunk And the only time he's any satisfied Is when he's all drunk He fills his glasses up to the brim And hell pass the cards around And the only pleasure he gets out of life Is rambling from town to town Oh tell my baby sister Not to do what I have done Shun that house in New Orleans They call the rising sun Well, it's one foot on the platform And the other foot on the train Im going back to new orleans To wear that ball and chain Im going back to New Orleans My race is almost run Im going back to end my life Down in the rising sun There is a house down in New Orleans They call the rising sun And it's been the ruin of many a poor girl And me, oh god, Im one

MOONSHINE
Moonshine I always loved moonshine With its after taste of copper and grime Moonshine.

Damn that foreshot gets you down It'll make a grown man go blind But the best always comes around Helps you open your mind Moonshine I always loved moonshine With its after taste of copper and grime Moonshine.

I remember walking down those planks With Makey and his boys by my side All them boozers giving us their thanks As we gazed at the sun at low tide Moonshine I always loved moonshine With its after taste of copper and grime Moonshine.

It had to come, one day Makey died He drank too much of his own dew Although we wanted to we never cried And it didn't stop us from making our brew Moonshine I always loved moonshine With its after taste of copper and grime Moonshine.

ZOMBIE ZOMBIE ZOMBIE

When I heard the news, I grabbed my faithful shotgun. The zombies were attacking, it was time for me to have fun. The world was going crazy, so I whispered to my baby I want to be a part of it Zombie Zombie Zombie I was walking down the street Looking for zombies to beat When I turned around to see They were all just waiting for me So I put my gun to my shoulder They had no where to run I was about to pull the trigger But theres no more ammo in this gun Time to go ! Time to go ! The zombies are running after me As fast as I go ! As fast as I go The Zombies are catching up with me

When they finally get me They rip the clothes of my body I'm yelling I'm screaming for Help But no one can hear me anymore Somebody please help somebody please Their eating my brain and its turning green Soon I'll be part of that army That great army the zombie army Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie Zombie

Take my hand and hold on tight Dont be afraid of the ground from our height We'll never fall if you believe that our dreams are free Free Free from society and reality and authority And all I'm asking is a bit of your time Baby walk home walk home with Thats all Im Asking Baby walk home walk home with Thats all Im asking

Every step we take gets us higher And every inch we go we get closer Share my dreams and play with them If we don't keep on sleeping I don't know who I am I'll asking you one more time, yeah just one more time ! Baby walk home walk home with Thats all Im Asking Baby walk home walk home with Thats all Im asking Through the land And through the sea Through the skies and in our dreams Come on baby and walk home with me
