These are concepts used in some Gnostic Rosicrucians and esoteric lodges. It is said that the initiate must stop being "imitatus" to become "Adeptus". It defines "imitatus" as "that others have placed in the way" and "Adeptus" as one that "science conquers himself, the son of his works."
