Performance Management and Reward Management Course Code: MBH 240 Objective: This course is designed to promote and

understand issues related to performance, compensation and reward system in corporate sector and impart skills in designing, analysis and restructure compensation management system, policies and strategies. Unit-1 Performance Management: Definition, the performance management contribution ,Poorly implemented PM Systems, definition of reward systems and aims and roles of PM systems, characteristic of an ideal PM system. Performance management Process, performance planning, performance execution, performance assessment, performance review, performance renewal and re-contracting. Performance management and strategic planning, definition and purpose of strategic planning, process of linking performance management to the strategic plan, building support. Unit-II System Implementation: Defining performance and choosing a measurement approach, determinants of performance, performance dimensions. Measuring results and behaviors. Gatherings performance information, appraisal forms, determining overall rating, appraisal period and number of meetings, model of rater motivation. Implementing a performance management system, preparation, communication, appeals process, training programs, and pilot testing, ongoing monitoring and evaluation Unit-III Employee development: Personal development, direct supervisors role, 360-degree feedback systems. Performance management skills, coaching, coaching styles, coaching process, performance review meetings. Unit-IV Managing Team Performance: Definition and importance of teams, types of teams and implication for performance management, including team performance in performance management. Rewarding team performance Unit-V Reward Systems and Legal Issues: Traditional and contingent pay plans, possible problems associated with contingent pay plans, selecting a contingent plan, performance management and the law, law affecting performance management. Factor in determining pay rates, managing the new workforce, establishing pay rates, pricing managerial and professional jobs, competency based pay. Money and motivation, individual employee incentive and recognition program, incentives for salespeople, incentive for manager and executives, team and organizational incentives plans, designing effective incentive programs. Scope & Objective: Performance management is the most critical function and strong determinant of organizational excellence. This course is designed to develop appreciation and skills essential for designing and instituting effective performance management systems.
