a beautiful and unique country in the South Pacific, boasting spectacular landscapes, lush forests, sweeping coastlines and vast mountain chains.
New Zealand is comparable in size to Great Britain or Japan. However, with a population of just over four million, it is one of the worlds least crowded countries and renowned for its natural beauty. New Zealanders are friendly, welcoming and enjoy meeting people from other cultures. Mori, New Zealands indigenous people, make up around 15 percent of the population. However, there are many different ethnic communities living in New Zealand, including Europeans, Asians and Pacific Islanders. As an independent nation with a stable economy and excellent health facilities, New Zealand enjoys a safe and open political environment. While studying in New Zealand you will enjoy a high standard of living. You will also find tuition and living costs compare favourably with other countries.

National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing, Level 5.
New Zealand is the last pure land in the world. I want to be a vet nurse, working with animals. I got a working holiday visa and worked for nearly 10 months before my first semester. one reason for choosing Tauranga is to improve my English. There are not lots of Chinese students here, so I have to speak more english. I am enjoying the animal care programme. There are many different animals in our class. All my tutors are very nice, with many years experience working with animals.
Prospective students are encouraged to let us know any specific ESOL or Foundation programmes they may require.

Napinderjit Kaur
BSc in Computer Science
this is my third year at the Bay of Plenty Polytech. I dont feel like an international student any more. last year I completed my level 6 Diploma of applied Computing and am now in the level 7 Bachelor degree. I chose the pathway course because the degree has a benefit for me. I especially enjoy web designing. I remember one presentation I really enjoyed doing, about website design. Everyone in my group were New Zealand students. They were really helpful with me. I was very nervous but got 94%! I recommend BoPP for It, as the programme is really good. I know the teachers in all my classes, they are really friendly and I like them.
Accommodation
28
Homestay
Homestay is when a student lives with a New Zealand family in their home. This is a good environment to be immersed in the New Zealand culture. All homestay accommodation is assessed for suitability by the International Pastoral Care Coordinator. Applications for homestay accommodation should be made well in advance of arrival in Tauranga. students choosing this option should be prepared for differences compared to living with their own family. Generally students will have their own room and most meals provided. students may be expected to help with some of the household duties. there will also be house rules to follow. For example, there may be limits on telephone use, computer use, or watching television. These types of rules vary between homestay families. We will match a family as closely as possible to what students require and what the family is looking for. For instance, if a student likes pets or vegetarian food, the Polytechnic will attempt to place this student with a similar family.
Costs of Homestay
the cost of homestay accommodation in tauranga is approximately nZ$230 - $250 per week, inclusive of food, power and laundry, but exclusive of telephone, Internet and transport expenses. Please note, a homestay placement fee may be applicable.
AVERAGE PRICES Accommodation (without food) Power/ gas/ Water Transport Food Entertainment
NZ$ PER WEEK $140 - $200 $10 - $50 $30 - $70 $60 - $100 $40 - $100

Furniture
You should check whether the flat is fully furnished (e.g. with a bed, fridge, washing machine), semi-furnished or unfurnished. Most houses for rent in New Zealand are unfurnished, but there are plenty of ways to buy affordable, quality second-hand items. In most houses for rent you will need to provide your own bedroom furniture including bed, linen, chest of drawers, desk, etc.
Household Appliances
Most houses for rent do not provide whiteware (fridge, washing machine, etc). You need to decide if you want to rent these items or if individual flat mates will provide them. There are many companies in Tauranga that lease whiteware at an affordable price.
Note:
these are estimates only, actual costs will depend on your personal lifestyle. For some visa and permits, new Zealand Immigration require a set amount of money to be available for living purposes (excluding accommodation expenses). Full details are available on the new Zealand Immigration service website at www.immigration.govt.nz.
