A Proposal for a Project to be Submitted at the end of 2nd semester 3rd year in Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Supervisor: ------------------------------------Date of Submission: __________________
Introduction
With the emergence of better data communication which is supported by the laying down of fiber optic cables in the university, thanks to MMUSTs IT management team, the need to embrace the available Technology to improve on health of the students is thus brought into focus, this project is concerned with implementation of electronic computerized medical system, that will offload the clinics management some great deal of tedious work. Also the system will be able to identify some disease (s) and subsequently subscribe drug(s) in accordance with drug and poisons board act. This will ensure that medication goes on even in absence of the doctor. In some cases, it will also reduce the queue waiting for consultation with the doctor.
Background Information
MMUSTs clinic was established to take care of the collage students and the surrounding populations healthy living condition. The clinic serves a very large population of over 5 thousand people since it is the only clinic well equipped with Doctors and drugs in the periphery of Kakamega, this has necessitated the need to improve the medication process in the clinic in order to curb time wastage problem among others. The current system relies on clinical officers who do search for students record, take them to the doctor for medical examination and subscription of drugs and later on, the records are stored back to the shelves.
Problem Statement
MMUSTs clinic serves a large number of people (approximately 5 thousand) and its activity
are done manually that is from patients file searching, cross examination, medical subscription to issuing of drugs. The security of data and report generation for patients illness are done manually this leads to increasing operation cost since a lot of human labor and large storage areas are needed. Again the issue of queue influx subject patients in critical conditions as they have to wait in pain a little longer since the order is first come first serve. The challenges encountered with the current manual system: The amount of time taken to serve every single student is long and tedious due to the slow procedure of the treatment process. Inconsistency- especially if students records are damaged or lost posing data recovery almost to zero. Privacy is lost since the person handling the students records can peruse them after the doctor release them. Inaccuracy due to human error in searching for the students record from the shelves.

What techniques can be used in the development of a secure eCDPS? What challenges face the developer of eCDPS? What methodologies can one adopt to come up with a good eCDPS? What are the rules and standard that governs development of eCDPS?
METHODOLOGY To develop my system I will use waterfall method. Waterfall method breaks the system development life cycle into phases and this enhances the understanding of the system. The output of each stage becomes the input of the next stage. The results of each stage are evaluated and a report is written before being released for the next stage and this enhances the quality of the system being developed. I also intend to use Data flow Diagrams (DFDs) to show the flow of data values within the system and processes involved. The use of Entity Relationship (ER) will enhance the understanding of database structure. Disadvantages of using the model One does not get to perceive the software until the end of the project completion. Changes made on the software can be very expensive since they are difficult to make. The model doesnt function well when requirements and other factors are not well understood.
i Requirement analysis and definition: - this is the stage where the developer establishes the system services and goal in consultation with the users. ii Preliminary design: -here one set clear bordery of the requirements and establishes the overall objective architecture by representing the system functions so that they can be transformed into an executable program.i.e came up with a prototype of the system. iii Detailed Design: in this stage the developer gives the users the prototype for approval before proceeding with the development of a detailed system. iv Code and Unit testing: - the developer realizes the software design as a set of program unit. Then taste each unit to see if it meets user specification and functionalities. v Integration and system testing:-Individual program unit are integrated and tested as a complete system to ensure that the software requirement and functionalities have been met. Here, there is receipt of deliverable output from the previous stage in the form of a requirement specification. This aims at producing an overall identification of the nature of the desired system and goes on to design logically what the new system must do. It effectively analyses both the current and the desired system. The process is a detailed fact-finding exercise about the applications area or areas recommended in the feasibility study. Techniques used in analysis are: Interviews Observation Document Reviews

Internet for research
Challenges encounter ship Rigidity during interviews some interviewee are not cooperating due to the nature of there work. Lack of enough time for project completion since I am also undertaking other unit. Lack of enough funds for the project
Conclusions
I would wish to recommend that MMUST should try to implement the proposed eClinical Data Processing System as it meets all the requirements of a well organized health organization. It is an improvement on the current manual system in terms of operation and economy. The system also reduces the storage space as no physical space would be required to store information.
