Radoxist studio deals with making professional visuals for advertising agencies in Slovakia and around the world. The studio worked on advertising campaigns for many companies, e.g. Nissan, Sony, Mazda, SOB, Aupark, Satur, Eurovea, Tatra Banka, Union and even more. Our great success was a work for Canadian advertising agency Cossette, which is ranked among 15 biggest advertising agencies of Northern America. For this agency we have created successful series of visuals for the Centre of science in Montreal, where a great exhibition of dinosaurs was held. We worked also on a successful project for the agency Sid Lee (also one of the biggest in North America) and our client was also One Drop organization promoting the water and its use. Radoxist studio was established in 2009 by Radoslav ilinsk, a founder of the project. Radoslav has been already dealing with 3D graphics, retouching, photomontage, photography and digital production for 13 years now. He made use of his experience and sense of detail, colour and composition and became successful in his commercial career. However, after more than 60 commercial projects he would like to create something unique, something more focused on the art and collaboration with other artistic industries.

TEAM:
Radoslav ilinsk, fascinated with the art and the document about the French painter Theodor Gericault, decided to reconstruct the painters masterpiece The Raft of the Medusa. This masterpiece from 19th century depicts real story, which deserves more attention but unfortunately got behind the shadow of more famous Titanic. Using new techniques of the 21st century (photographing, 3D graphics, photomontage), our goal is to make this situation more realistic and appealing, without harming original conception in the sense of learning from old maestros. Radoslav leads this project as an art director and organizer of it all. In the end, he will put everything together into one digital piece.
It is impossible to create such a massive reconstruction, so he invited other artists to participate on this project

1. What will be the subject of your creative production?

The subject of our creation is a reconstruction of the masterpiece by French painter Theodor Gericault - The raft of the Medusa by using new techniques - combination of 3D graphics, photography, digital retouching and photomontage (matte painting).

2. What is your attitude to creative production in contemporary Slovakia and in the world in this project?
Realistic combination of 3D graphics, photography, photomontage and digital retouch has been already used in advertisement for a long time. By the creation of this project we would like to point out that these new techniques can also be used in the art and therefore deserve more attention between young generations of artists.

3. How will the creative process run?

Immediately after fulfilling the budget, the project will run according to on the basis of these points: 1 Selection of models - One of the most important steps in the project is the selection of the right men, who will embody individual sailors in the picture. Selection will be realized through casting and choosing in several competent classes of men - fencers, dancers, etc. Our intention is to find men with realistic attributes of models - muscularity, gracility, sinewiness, long hair and beard. 2 Costume production after finding the adequate models, the creation of suitable costumes follow. Sewing and arranging is very important - patination of clothes and costume fitting. 3 Photo-shooting due to the great amount of sailors in the picture, the photography is divided into four installments/days, each day for five people. The particular photography always consists of: - Film make-up, patination, hair dressing, putting scars, bruises, sunburns, beards and so on - Costume fitting, dressing and arranging - Preparation of lights, perspective and composition of models according to the picture - Photography itself and the recording on quality digital cameras 4 Making the 3D model of the raft It starts during previous phases of the project. It consists of 3D modelling of the raft and sails, lighting, texturing and making of realistic materials. Final photorealistic picture will be prepared for composition with photographed material.

5 Composition of the final artwork The final composition of the sailors photographed together with the realistic 3D model of raft and other photos will serve as a basis for the creation of sea and sky. This phase includes colour grading, cutting the models from photos, retouching, photomontage and matte painting in using 2D composition software.

4. How will be the students involved?

The students represent the next part of philosophy of learning from old maestros. They will assist in their specialization and they will have the chance to learn from the professionals participating in this project. It would be great experience for them to work on a real project and they can reach/get more knowledge useful in their future.

5. What is the cognitive contribution of your project?

The students participating in the creative process will have an opportunity to learn from their older and more experienced colleagues. Everybody could learn from each other and, of course, from the maestro of composition, dynamics, colours and story - Theodore Gericault himself. We hope all the participants will move up in their creation ahead, because the creation of such a massive piece of art is a challenge for everybody.

6. What is the output of your creative process and what use does it have?
The final output of our creative process will be a digital picture in high resolution, usable in large-size print. Our primary purpose is to place the picture in a large format to one of the modern galleries in Slovakia or in the world. The picture can be used also in whatever size or format in different ways - whether in post-cards, posters, canvases or walls.

7. What will be the contribution of this project in the artistic sphere?

The contribution consists of broadening the awareness of the alternative techniques of art production and their combining in creative process formed by young and contemporary artists. It also shifts the borders of creative photography from the commercial advertisement sphere to the sphere of imagination, ideas and their realisations.

Thank you.
