The Next Big Things!

Hi everyone! My name is Kathleen Heuer, and I am the liason this year to the Norwin Band Aides, the booster group for the Norwin bands. Basically, that means that I attend the meetings and let you know about the interesting and important stuff. My daughter Katie is a 6th grade alto sax, and Grace will be rockin the recorder in 3rd grade this year. Were SO excited to have your child as a beginning band student! Theres a whole lot to look forward to! This week is a great way to jump start your childs beginning band experience. Your child will become familiar with his or her new instrument and learn a few basics. I think youll find that Mr. Lippmann is one of the most dynamic and engaging teachers your child could have. Their time in the Hillcrest band room will be a lot of fun! TL; DR (Too long; didnt read): Welcome! We you! Check the website & schedule. Call me, maybe? Email is even better. Please SUBSCRIBE to the website to get all the updates via email.

Take a moment to check out the calendar of events to the left. The list of Next Big Things is intended to let you know about local opportunities and performances that will enrich your childs music experience. Attending these events may earn your child Borc Bucks from Mr. Lippmann, which can then be spent on prizes and incentives to keep your child interested and engaged in music. Unless otherwise noted, all events are optional. If your child would like to attend, but you are not able to transport your child, let Kathleen know.

The era of left brain dominance, and the Information Age that it engendered, is giving away to a new world in which right brain qualities inventiveness, empathy, and meaning predominate. Thats what business is about today. This is a hard-headed argument that arts education is not ornamental but fundamental for economic reasons. We should be adding and not cutting the arts. 1. Students of lower socioeconomic status who took music lessons in grades 8-12 increased their math scores significantly as compared to nonmusic students. But, just as important, reading, history, geography and even social skills soared by 40%.

Help! The band room is awfully crowded. Please make sure that your childs instrument case is easily identifiable. Tie on a piece of yarn or ribbon, or attach a flashy luggage tag. Or best of all, use a strip of brightly colored duct tape on the end of your childs instrument case. That way, the kids can quickly and easily find their cases on the shelves and make the most of their limited rehearsal time.
