Question no.7792)Why muaddin turn right and left. [Topic:Adhaan]

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters, As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you) One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question: I want to know the reason of turning right and left of a Muazzin when he is giving Azaan.

Answer: Why muaddin turn right and left In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers. Abu Juhaifah (r.a.) reported, "Bilal (r.a.) declared the Adhaan, and I saw the movement of his face from this side (right) to that side (left) upon saying "Hayya alas-Salaah" and "Hayya alal-Falaah." (Related by al-Bukhari and Muslim.) In al-Mughni, it states from Ahmad that the caller should not turn to the left or to the right unless he is at the top of a minaret, so that the people on both sides can hear him. The absolute majority of the scholars and jurists in Islam are of the opinion that the only reason Hadrat Bilaal (r.a.) would turn his face towards the right and the left during the declaration of the Adhaan was to enable his voice to reach the maximum number of people. With the advent of the modern invention of the loud-speaker the wisdom of the sound of the Adhaan calling the believers to prayer reaching far and wide would be more than sufficiently fulfilled, thus the scholars are of the opinion that if the Muaddhin today does not turn to his left and his right during his declaration of the Adhaan, there is absolutely no harm. And Allah Alone Knows Best. Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allahs Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength

(Question no.7726)Two adhaans before jumuah friday. [Topic:Adhaan]

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters, As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you) One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question: Assalamo alaikum jazakallah and thanks for all the answers. Pls. explain why there is 2 adhan during midday before jumma prayer?
(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer: Two adhaans before jumuah friday In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers. Your Question: pls. explain why there is 2 adhan during midday before jumma prayer? Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 62 Surah Jumuah verse 9: 9 O ye who believe! When the call (adhaan) is proclaimed to prayer on Jumuah (Friday mid-day or the Day of Assembly) hasten earnestly to the Remembrance of Allah and leave off business: that is best for you if ye but knew! Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 2.51 Narrated by Abu Huraira The Prophet (saws) said, "When it is Jumuah, the Angels stand at the gate of the masjid and keep on writing the names of the persons coming to the masjid in succession according to their arrivals. The example of the one who enters the masjid in the earliest hour is that of one offering a camel (in sacrifice); the one coming next is like one offering a cow; and then a ram; and then a chicken; and then an egg respectively. When the Imam comes out (for Jumuah sermon) they (i.e. Angels) fold their papers and listen to the sermon." The basic wisdom behind the adhaan or the call to prayer is to announce to the believers that the time of prayer is due and the believing males should prepare to make their way unto the dedicated Houses of worship of Allah or the masjids. During the times of the Messenger of Allah (saws) the believers were gathered in a relatively small community, and unlike the other prayers when there was a little time given between the declaration of the adhaan and the iqamah for prayer to allow the believers to prepare themselves for prayer, on the Day of Jumuah the Messenger of Allah (saws) would start his sermon immediately after the declaration of the adhaan. But because the believers were gathered in a relatively small community at the time of the Messenger of Allah (saws), the declaration of only one adhaan during Jumuah served the purpose of reminding the believers in the community that the time of Jumuah was due.

As the multitude and the magnitude of the believers grew after the death of the Messenger of Allah (saws), to make doubly and absolutely sure that every believing male was able to prepare for prayer make his way to the masjid before the Imam started his sermon, Hadrat Uthmaan (r.a.) during his reign recommended that two sets of adhaan be declared on the Day of Jumuah..and that tradition of declaring two sets of adhaan on the Day of Jumuah has been honored by the believers since that time. Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4590 Narrated by Irbad ibn Sariyah One day the Messenger of Allah (saws) led us in prayer, then faced us and gave us a lengthy exhortation at which the eyes shed tears and the hearts were afraid. A man said: O Messenger of Allah (saws)! It seems as if it were a farewell exhortation, so what injunction do you give us? He (saws) then said: I enjoin you to fear Allah, and to hear and obey even if it be an Abyssinian slave, for those of you who live after me will see great disagreement. You must then follow my Sunnah and that of the Rightly-Guided Khalifas (after me). Some people have argued that since the declaration of the second adhaan was added to the Day of Jumuah only after the death of the Messenger of Allah (saws), thus it is an innovation or bidabut in light of the above quoted authentic tradition, the believers were guided and commanded by the Messenger of Allah (saws) Himself to follow his (saws) Sunnah as well as the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Khalifahs. And Allah Alone Knows Best.

Question no.7404)Difference between iqama and adhan. [Topic:Adhaan]

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters, As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you) One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question: I would like to ask you to send me literature containing the difference between adhan and Iqamat ,and let us know why the difference came and when. Most of our people in th esub continent pronounce the Iqamat same as Adhan , but I think there must be some defference kept in both of them. I heard iqmat in Haram , Makkah and Madina in different way, thats why I am asking you to guide us. I shall be thankful for your kind help. Jazakallah Khair.

Answer: Difference between iqama and adhan In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers. Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 1.579 Narrated by Anas ibn Malik Bilal was ordered by the Prophet (saws) to repeat the wording of the Adhaan for prayers twice, and to pronounce the wording of the Iqama once except "Qadqamat-is-Salat". Although the wordings of the adhaan and the iqama are quite similar, there is a distinct difference in their declaration. The Messenger of Allah (saws) ordered Hadrat Bilaal (r.a.) to repeat the phrases of the adhaan twice and in a slow-paced rhythm; and the declare the phrases of the iqama only once in a faster-paced rhythm. The main reason and wisdom behind the repetition of the phrases of the adhaan twice and in a slow-paced rhythm is to make aware to the believers that the time of offering the prayer has begun, and the wisdom behind the declaration of the iqama is only to signal to the believers present that the prayer is about to start and they should thus stand themselves in rows and make themselves available for congregational prayer.

If the iqama was already declared at one assembly of prayer, there was absolutely no need for another to insist that it be declared again for the same prayer.
