Scholarship Recognition Reception

The Washington State Community College (WSCC) Foundation recently held its Scholarship Recognition Reception, awarding 54 scholarships totaling $93,614. The WSCC Foundation has grown considerably since its inception in 2004; the annual ceremony recognizing scholarship recipients has been held since 2005. The first year the Foundation had scholarships to award, we supported three students with a total of $2,500. This year we were able to award $93,614 to 34 students, says Gail Reynolds, WSCC Foundation executive director. Seeing the positive impact of receiving an award for our students academic success and the improved quality of life for their families is a rewarding experience for our scholarship donors who appreciate the opportunity to meet their award recipients, frequently establishing a bond that lasts a lifetime. Among those receiving scholarships were two Monroe County residents: Mary Billman is a non-traditional student, single mother of nine children, grandmother of two, and enrolled full-time in the challenging Medical Laboratory Technology program. Juggling an active family life and a part-time job, Mary continues to maintain a 4.0 GPA in her coursework and has been described by faculty as dedicated, focused, and

Our girls knew they had a tough day ahead of them. Its hard to play back to back and OSU Mansfield gave OUE a hard fight for the first game. OUE never stopped playing, but at the end Mansfield pulled out the second win. Although OUE lost the second game, there were small victories within that lost. The Panthers put in new offensive plays which were successful, added a new defense, and the hitters are really starting to see the floor. The girls are working hard every practice and it shows in games. Game 1: OUE vs Mansfield 25-21; 18-25; 25-19; 23-25; 1513. Game 2: OUE vs Mansfield 19-25; 25-15; 25-20; 25-21; 815.
