KAKINDA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCE DIVILI III B.Tech II-MID EXAMINATION Max.

Marks: 40 M Time: 2hrs Design and Drawing of Concrete Structures-I Date: 15/10/2012
1. Design a doubly reinforced rectangular simply supported at its both ends to carry a service live load of 30kN/m and superimposed dead load of 18kN/m over a clear span of 6.2m the width and overall depth of beam for the architectural reasons are kept as 360mm and 600mm respectively, use M20 grade concrete and Fe 250 steel. 2. A T-beam is cast monolithically 120mm thick slab has a flange width of 1100mm, rib width of 450mm and rib depth of 550mm. Area of steel provided in tension is 3041mm 2 at an effective cover of 70mm from bottom . M20 and Fe 415 are used. Determine the moment of resistance of the T-beam. 3. (a)What is shear? Give the effects of shear and shear reinforcement. Give the procedure for shear design. (b)A doubly reinforced beam of effective size 300mX410mm is reinforced with 4 bars of 20mm diameter at top and 5 bars of 20mm diameter at bottom. The factored u.d.l including self-weight is 50kN/m over an effective span of 5.3m. Two bars at bottom are curtailed near supports. Design the beam for shear, if M25 and Fe 415 are used. 4. A R.C column 3.3m effective length and 400mm dia is reinforced with 8 bars 20mm dia Fe 250 steel. Find the safe load the column can carry if it is wound by spiral reinforcement with 8mm mild steel bar around the compression reinforcement at a pitch of 50mm. clear cover for main bar is 40mm. concrete used is M20.
