Introductionn Robert Kozma focused his research on desveloping countries (Uganda ) and well developed.

He consulted different people like educators , students , village , leaders and policy makerkrs. He focused on developing website ,that share their information with and the culture with other countries , Efucators and students can collect and ananyse data and solve problems in the maths ans science Gauteng on line had the same focus with Kozma and Khanya projects by ensuring that solution allows communication with peers and educators within and beyond the boarders of South African system .They also ensured that the methods and tools system that facilitate learning are designed and developed. Compared to Khanya projects and Kozma who focused in their countries not only on a Province.Gauteng on line focused on Gauteng province as part of South Africa.Many stakeholder in education e=were not consulted eg ELSEN schools.The equipment used were supposed to be adjustable to meet the needs of disabled learners.(mouse control)The community does not take ownership of the school computers as the principal fear that when exposing the compmuter s to the community can lead to thief and vandalism of the school property in need of computers (school safety) MAINN FOCUS OF Gauteng on line Gauten on line provide all learners access to quality education,.Through E-learning make notable advantage s in supplying skilled learner for the further study and employment which improve South African culture , citezenhip. Learners with barriers are suppotted with tools method and tools but not on practical sense as they cannot handle the mouse or keyboards, Educators development was not effective as educators were trained for a week on E-learning, ,for a week period fewer busaries were awarded to educators KHANYA AND ICT PROJECTS The centre encompasee three broad areas of work Provision of access to I CT resources through setting up on internet centre Provision of capacity building in the use of I CT for the constituences that the college works with and services The development of I C T application that are useful and relevant for the building of social movement in S.A WHY KHANYA COLLEGE I CT AND COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT CENTRE Khanya college has both the political and the organizational capabilities need to set and sustain an I C T and the community empowerment centre . Khanya college is capable of having an extensive link with , and respect among the various social movement and civil society organization .Khanya has built up link with varios civil society organization in Southern African region and is currently involved in a number of initiatives that include contact and collaboration with with civil society organization in the s.a region,Khanya has the management experience

and institutional stability that will ensure that only are the outcome of the programme are realized but that the programmed will be sustained overtime The h ICT issues like providing access to the intrnet for progressive nongovernmental orgnisations. The college brings to this are of activity its extensive links with social movements and the large layers of activities that currently particiopate in its varios training programmes The primary aims of the centre for ICT and comminty empowermentcentre are : To facilitate access to the internet and information technologyies in general activities and social movement from poor and marginalized communities in SA To train activist in the use of internet and ICT in general as organizing and mobilizing tools To facitate the use of ICT for mobilizing including campaigns .organisation building networking and solidarity among the variouis social movement in the Southern Africa To build the ICT infrastructure of Khanya College ,Social movements and other non-profit organization in Southern Africa To develop ICT change applications that will be of use to the social movement in their struggle for socal change To promote the ucse of open source software among non-profit organisatin in Southern Africa To participate in advocacy initiatives concerning broader access to ICTS by poor and marginalized sector of in Southern Africa Online network of Progressive resources centres in Southern Africa Has engage a number of social movement and not for profit organizations in building a resource centre and library. It ensure that this resource can be accessed on-line and it will create an oon-line network among different resources centres The ICT and CEC will crete a common web-based database of resources and books held by number of various resources centres and librarie in the region, This will make such resources accessible to organizations and individuals in involved in development work inn the region The project will involve negotiations with various progressive organisatiion in the region about the project,the creation of common technology platform to allow their varios resources centre database to interface with a common web-based on line resources centre ,training persons based in the various oranisatios in the use of interactive databae ,and the development of proto col for sharing the resources The college wil also develop a collection of educational and research resources focusing on media in general an ICTS in particular.

An interactive web-based database for informal sector and farm workers organization ,and othe r organisatins of vulnerable workers The portal will allow these organization to share and exchanges information on legal development in the different countries , development s in organizing informal and formal sector workers contacts and profiles of organizing conference and so on The college will develop the data base which will contain contact detailes of all labour and general advise centres in the region,T the portal will also be used to facilitate the production of a regional newsletter for the organization and their consttuencies.The interactive database will allow the user to update and amend existing records using icons, allow for fairly easy user configurable reports .The application will be developed in such a way that different countries within the region could use it. The college will also prvide E-rider services to the social movement and the other non-profit organizations ,These will include Developing data0base Developing communication strategies Develop effective websites and other uses of internet Develop customized software applications for use by various organizations and movement Assisting with the creation organizational technology infrastructure and standards Training in the use of ICT for community mpowerment The ICT staff will act as consultants to help these organizations achieve their ICT needs and low cost The E-rider services will train in the use of ICTS .This training will take place at the Khanya college internt centre as well as other cetres in Southern Africa Conclussion To finalise my research Khanya projects is far different from Gauteng on line.Looking at the awards they have achieved like Final in Afria ICT Achievers awars 2007 Winner in CPSTS Public sector innovation awards received in 20November 2007 Brionze award at th Western Cape premier services excellence award 2007 Gold award from the Impumelele Innovations award trust received on 17/02/2007 Silver award at the Western Cape premier services excellence award 2006 Winner of Technology Top 100 award Finalist in two categories of ICT Silver award at the Western Cape

Gauteg online projects Gauteng public schools will have fully equipped information Communication Centre by the end of March.The rollout of 1100 schooll aims to provide every learner in the Province with intrenet access and Email address and computer studies. This is the multibillion rand Gauteng on line programme. Jacob told media conference at the Hamlet School for learners with special educational needs the installation at 120 schools had been completed. Afurther 230 schools were almost completed. The MEC added more 500 installation were expected to be completd by the end of the month i.e the installation of equipment ,orientation of educators , and immediate access to the broadband internet and the use of E-mails. The projects also involve the provision on an intergrated big screem ,tv set a D V D.video recorde and a satellite dish in each and will benefit more than500000 learners in Gauteng The Gauteng government made available an initial R500 million to kick start the project and entered into public private partnershiop with key information technology (IT) companies to raise the required R4billion to complete and maintain the programme.Apilot started at more than 30 schools from varyng socio-economic background More than R18million has been lost in the Gauteng on line school project .(GOSP the project has lost about R3 billion since its inception in 2002 and computers equiopment worth over R18,5 million has been lost to theft since 2008. The joint initiative between the Gauteng department of Finance and education was expected to connect 2042 schools by May last year, but did not materialize .Security is a majaor problem.630 cases of burglary and theft of the projects computers have been reported ,but there there has not been even one conviction yet.Security is a challenge for the project and adds that another problem is the growing number of schools. The lab is essential failing always offline.Poor planning and governance is causing its failure.There is a lack of understanding of exactly what need to be done to ensure learners benefit.The project is being run by two departments at the same time so there are misunderststandings as to who is responsible for what .Labs are used as storeroom sometimes Project boost resolution Department of finance says it will focuss on accellarating the profect,They will train 1200 IT technicians and deploy them to GOSP. Pof R400million will go towards compleing the remaining 595 GOSP computer labs.The department have introduced operation Tsoseletso to

adree challenges experienced wtth the implementation of GOSP since its inception in 2001.
