LESSON 1 Intro to The Learning Model

Review by Tuesday, September 18 Instructions Now that you have an idea of what type of questions you will face, lets practice. Read Reading Assignment #1 below. Then, view the chart to see examples of questions and answers. Reading Assignment #1: The Learning Model: Student Process 1. Preparation o Step 1, Preparation, has three parts. First, there is spiritual preparation for each student. This is critical to learning by faith and being guided and taught by the Holy Ghost. It requires daily attention to prayer and scripture study, and a commitment to obedience. o The second part of preparation is an individual activity. Here, the student prepares to learn and to teach by organizing required readings or assignments. o The third part is a group activity. The process assumes that students have been organized into small learning teams or study groups. The groups meet for a short period on a regular basis either online or face-to-face to discuss assignments, to try out ideas, and to test understanding. 2. Teach One Another o Step 2, Teach One Another, occurs in class [or maybe on a discussion board] when its your turn. There may be a wide variety of different methods, styles, and techniques used in the class. For example, you could invite students to participate on a discussion board debate, lead a discussion at the gathering, teach a principle that you've learned, etc. 3. Ponder/Prove o Step 3, Ponder/Prove, occurs after class and may involve individual or group activities. In this step, students ponder what they have learned in class. They keep a learning journal and write down impressions and insights they have received. Students pursue unanswered questions and discuss in class with their study group. In this way, step 3 blends in a natural way into step 1 in preparation for the next class. Example One: Look at the chart below. The chart has been completed with answers (in red) to the closed-ended and open-ended questions.
