Sensomer* CT-400 Polymer

Product Description:
Sensomer CT-400 polymer is a naturally derived, multifunctional polymer for use in hair care formulations providing improved deposition, distinctive sensory and enhanced conditioning. When used in shampoos, Sensomer CT-400 polymer deposits silicone more efficiently and conditions hair more effectively than standard cationic conditioning polymers. The improved efficiency of the polymer allows formulators to reduce the amount of silicone and cationic polymer needed to produce formulations that generate smooth, silky, healthy looking hair that is alluring to the eye and to the touch. Sensomer CT-400 polymer is a cationic derivative of cassia gum, a galactomannan with a long history of use in Ayurvedic medicine to treat skin ailments, indigestion and pain.

INCI Designation:
Cassia Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride

Benefits:
Very efficient silicone deposition aid Good surfactant compatibility to generate formulations with medium clarity Generates high levels of coacervation Highly substantive polymer Enhances comb properties of hair in both the wet and dry stage Generates clean and fresh wet sensory Leaves dry hair feeling soft and conditioned Effective frizz control to leave hair looking smooth and silky Enhances viscosity of anionic surfactantbased formulations Enhances foam richness to generate a long lasting creamy foam in surfactant-based formulations Versatility to provide enhanced conditioning for a wide variety of hair types

Chemistry:
Sensomer CT-400 polymer is a cationic derivative of cassia gum. Cassia gum is a natural, vegetable-based carbohydrate based on mannose and galactose sugars and is a member of the galactomannan family of polysaccharides. The cassia gum used to produce Sensomer CT-400 polymer is based on a combination of cassia tora and cassia obtusifolia which grow wild in tropical zones around the world. Cassia gum is modified with the quaternary ammonium compound, hydroxypropyl trimethylammonium chloride, to generate Sensomer CT-400 polymer. The chemical identity of the polymer is 2-hydroxypropyl-3-trimethylammonium chloride cassia. The combination of cationic charge and unique molecular structure provides Sensomer CT-400 polymer with its unique deposition characteristics and distinctive sensory.

Formulating Guidelines:
Formulation Tips: Recommended use level: 0.10 - 0.25 wt% TS High levels of anionic surfactants preferred (>10 - 12 wt% TS) o Amphoteric surfactants (i.e., CAPB) and salt levels varied to adjust viscosity and clarity (if desired) At lower levels of anionic surfactants (<12 wt% TS) compatibility can be improved by: o Higher levels of amphoteric surfactant (CAPB) and salt o Use of lower levels of Sensomer CT-400 polymer Use of small particle size silicone leads to higher levels of silicone deposition than large particle size silicone For formulations requiring use of high levels of Sensomer CT-400 polymer dispersions (2 wt% TS or more), dispersion preparation time can be optimized with use of: o Citric acid o Carriers such as glycerin or betaine Recommended Order of Addition for Shampoo via Pre-Addition: 1. Disperse the Sensomer CT-400 polymer in water 2. Add betaine (CAPB) 3. Add anionic surfactants (SLES or others) 4. Add EGDS (Heat to 65 - 70C), then cool 5. Add silicone emulsion and any other ingredients (fragrance, dye, mica, etc.) 6. Add salt to desired viscosity 7. Adjust pH as needed Recommended Order of Addition for Shampoo via Post Addition:
Please note: This process is recommended when Carbopol polymer is used for shampoo formulation.

Storage and Handling:

Packaging: Polyethylene lined, heavy duty paper bags with a net weight of 20 kilograms. Shelf Life: Two years from date of manufacture. Storage Conditions: Store in a dry, clean place away from direct heat or sparks. Material Handling:

Keep bags of product sealed until needed. Keep partially used bags in a humidity controlled room to prevent moisture uptake. Avoid creating dust. Maintain good housekeeping procedures. Sensomer CT-400 polymer is freeze/thaw stable. Consult the product MSDS for additional safety and handling information.
