The 12th Course for Academic Development of Psychiatry(CADP) Fellowship program

The Course for the Academic Development of Psychiatry (CADP) was designed and started by Professor Norman Sartorius and introduced in Japan in 2002 by Professor M. Sato, (then President of the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology). The aim of this course is to develop professional and leadership skills of young psychiatrists. The course was developed further by Japan Young Psychiatrists Organization (JYPO). The first six CADP brought together young psychiatrists from Japan: from the seventh course JYPO invited young psychiatrists from other countries to participate in the course. The CADP is different from all the other courses that are offered to young psychiatrists in that it emphasis on the acquisition of skills that young professionals need in their everyday practice and in academic activities, and that it requires continuous active participation of all those present. Each of the participants performs in several roles -as a presenter, chairperson, report writerand takes part in role plays of approximating real life situations and challenges. The performance in these roles is analysed and critiqued by the participants. As another unique point of CADP, the participants all stay in the same hotel, have all meals together which greatly contribute to their bonding and stimulate their communication and feelings that they belong to a group of peers. Furthermore, JYPO is also one of co-hosted organizations in the 6 t h International Meeting of World Psychiatric Association (WPA) Anti-stigma Section which will be held on February 12-14, 2013, in Tokyo, Japan and will have a symposium about stigma as a Pre-CADP session. While deeply pleased to have this opportunity, we are also keenly aware of the responsibility and challenges that accompany it. The 12th CADP will take place in Chiba, Japan on February 15-17, 2013. We JYPO would like to welcome young psychiatrists from overseas to the 12th CADP and the 6 t h International Meeting of WPA Anti-stigma Section, for the further development of collaboration and friendship.
