Subject(s): Science Measuring Volume

Planning and Preparation (AEA: Conceptualization, DiagnosisWTS:
1,7DISP: Respect Responsibility)
Evidence (Candidate
x Demonstrates knowledge of content and pedagogy
x Chooses and creates learning experiences based on appropriate
objectives
x Selects services or resources, e.g., media, technology, materials, to
reinforce instruction

Great job of connecting to students' prior knowledge at the very
beginning of the lesson. Good use of visuals to help students better
understand the concepts. The interactive whiteboard was a great
tool to use and the students clearly enjoyed the idea of taking part
in an online activity -

Classroom Environment (AEA: Coordination, Integrative Interaction
WTS: 2,3,5DISP: Respect, Responsibility)
Evidence (Candidate and Student)
x Reinforces a learning community in which individual differences are
respected and in which students work collaboratively and independently
x Plans for and delivers motivational instruction by relating lessons to
students' interest, providing student choice, questioning and investigation
x Organizes, allocates, and manages resources of time, space, activities
and attention to engage students productively
x Maximizes the amount of class time spent in learning by creating
expectations and procedures for communication and behavior

Students were actively involved/engaged throughout the online
activity. It was easy to see and hear their enthusiasm. The quick
feedback to their responses added to their excitement as well. You
set up your lessons so that they are interactive throughout. This
helps the students to feel connected as they are not simply listening
to your instruction, they are involved as well. Lesson followed a
logical progression so by the time students were ready for the lab,
they knew exactly what to do.

Great use of questions to check student understanding. This also
got everyone thinking about what they already know about the
concepts before moving on to new material. You used science
vocabulary on a regular basis and encouraged the students to do so
as well. You did a great job of encouraging student participation and
the results were a classroom full of 6
th
graders who were focused
and engaged.

Summary Statement and Areas to Concentrate on Improving:
:
"Science is fun ~ 6
th
grade student. Best quote over for a science teacher to hear during a lesson! You have such a great presence and rapport
with these kids and they clearly enjoy your instruction. You plan lessons that will engage students and allow them to be actively involved from start
to finish. The online activity was a great way to introduce the concept of measuring volume and gave the students practice with the concept before
moving in to the lab. In this way, students were well prepared to conduct the lab and could move from station to station with ease, knowing what
was expected. You ask good questions that get students thinking and allow you to check their level of understanding. When needed, you provide
alternate explanations to ensure that all students understand the material. You are very knowledgeable of the science content and can speak easily
on your feet. Great job!

Culminating Reflection Feedback: I truly enjoyed reading your culminating reflection. You learned so much about yourself this
semester and I know those lessons will travel with you as you move into your next field and prepare for student teaching. You have set
very realistic goals for yourself and because you are so willing to try new things, I know you will achieve them. In ED 315, you will learn
much more about assessment, which should help you in an area you want to develop. As you prepare lessons for high school students
in your next field, remember all of the wonderful and engaging activities you planned for middle school and decide if those strategies (or
similar ones) might work just as well with older students. Your easy rapport with adolescents serves you well in any classroom setting
and I love that you recognize that if you find the material boring or dull, your students will to so your challenge is to make every lesson
exciting! I know you can do that because you have the commitment and the passion needed to put in the effort that will engage
students in concepts they may have thought of as dull, boring, or unnecessary. Best of luck as you move forward you are making the
most of your journey and you and your students will benefit as a result.
