ISLAMIC AWARENESS PROJECT

Goal: To create an inspirational Islamic Awareness Presentation Board, to provide public and private schools information about Islam during the month of Ramadan. After completing presentation boards, we will deliver the presentation boards to various neighbouring elementary schools. Process: Students will be working in groups of FOUR to complete this project. Each member of the group will be responsible for TWO written portions of this project. The topics are listed below: 1) The 5 Pillars of Islam Explain each one in the first paragraph. What are they? Give at least 2 to 3 sentences for each pillar. Why are they so important to us as Muslims? What kinds of rewards and benefits do they bring? What are some related hadiths about the five pillars? Compare the five pillars to another religion. Are they similar? Different? Would Islam be what it is today without these Five Pillars? How do the Pillars help Islam to be a peaceful religion? 2) Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) Who is he? Talk about the Seal of Prophethood Talk about the other prophets before Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Why do we say, peace be upon him after we mention his name? How do Muslims today try to be like him? What is the Sunnah, Seerah, Hadiths and why are they so important in Islam? Talk about his character and relate to Muslims today. Was he honest? Kind to children and elderly? Patient? 3) The Holy Quran What is it? How and when was it revealed? What are the other Holy Books we believe in as Muslims? Why is the Quran considered authentic? Describe translation and transliteration and interpretation and how all of these are important as Muslims who try to read the Quran. Think about some hadiths, benefits, and rewards of reading the Quran. How is the Holy Quran different from other religious books today? 4) Ramadan Describe Ramadan in complete detail. What time do we wake up, what time do we eat again? Describe the importance of fasting the eyes, ears, tongue, touch, smell as well as of food and drink.
