Mobile applications continue to make an impact in the construction industry with significant advances in content management, on-site document approval, and complex workflow process optimization. This session will highlight the most recent app Concrete Ontario developed by the Ready Mixed Concrete Association with support from the Ministry of Economic Development and Innovation. Mobile apps are paving the way for better, faster and more effective industry standards.
tom Bellis, Marketing and Communications Director, Ready Mixed Concrete Association of Ontario (RMCAO)

CANMET is a 16,000 m2 laboratory and office space that incorporates a complex industrial program in a fully inter-connected building where design and functional systems work in harmony. An Integrated Design Process (IDP) was an essential forum for determining innovative solutions that maximize the performance of the various sustainable design initiatives. From the project outset sustainability was core to the owners vision. Objectives such as a 70% reduction in energy consumption and LEED Platinum certification were established and signed off by all key project team members in a Building Design Charter. Achievement of such ambitious goals is a challenge for any project and a particular challenge for a laboratory facility. The intention of this seminar will be to walk participants through the Integrated Design Process that was followed through the evaluation and implementation of each of these elements. The session will not only highlight the resulting success stories but will also share numerous lessons learned. Participants will take away examples of real applications of IDP that can be applied to any future project with sustainability ambitions.

Driven by the need for lower costs and higher efficiencies, e-Procurement is becoming more popular and more widely used across the globe, with the private sector and particularly with public sector entities. However, what e-Procurement means varies widely between the public and private sectors, between owners, and even geographically. This session will help explain where the construction industry currently is and where we need to go. If you are in Construction procurement, bid construction work, or just want to know where this is all going, you cant afford to miss this session. This session will be applicable to both the design and construction community, including public and private sector owners, architects, consultants, procurement professionals, contractors, and sub-trades in the construction industry.
