When I'm not doing any of those things, I process Candidates paperwork, plan fun things like Youth Councils, grade Corps Cadet Lessons, answer emails and....wait, I need more coee Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks? Neither, Tim Hortons Which game show would you choose to go on? The Price is Right. I totally have a shopping problem and it's because of my extensive time inside of stores that I am pretty convinced I know that actual retail value. Why do you love working with youth? Ok, no silly answer here. I grew up in not the best home, pretty abusive actually. It was someone at The Salvation Army Corps investing in me, caring about me and taking time to love me that changed my life forever; I want to be that for someone! "A hundred years from now, no one will remember the kind of car I drove, the sort of house I lived in, or how much money I had in the bank; none of that will matter. But the world may be dierent because I was important in the life of a child."

What do you do in the Youth Dept? In the summer, Captain Amanda and I run the best camp in the world. S-EB-A-G-O, Sebago is the place to go! Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks? Neither, Im an Arnold Palmer or Coca-Cola guy. Which game show would you choose to go on? Wheel of Fortune, I always know the puzzle before the people on TV! Why do you love working with youth? I love how honest small children are; if you want to know what theyre thinking just ask, theyll tell you. I love working with teens because they dont take themselves too seriously and know how to have a good time.

September in Northern New England is decorated with transformation, but during the NNE Youth Councils, the foliage wasnt the only thing transforming. On the weekend of September 16-18, 2012 over 150 people gathered at beautiful Camp Sebago and what an amazing weekend it was and with the lineup of guests, it was bound to be nothing other than incredible. Before corps vehicles were allowed on camp Friday night, they were stopped and the entire corps delegations were prayed for by the leadership sta. Marty Mikles was the worship leader for the weekend and opened the Friday night keynote with energizing worship. What a wondrous thing it was to hear the youth from around the division singing if our God is for us, who could ever stop us. Colonel Howard Burr delivered the keynote message and the Spirit moved as the altar was full of young people responding to the message to not conform but to rather be transformed by Jesus Christ. Saturday morning Major James Betts spoke after a time of worship and gave a set of questions to discuss as the youth separated into age specic groups. The questions, surrounding the theme of transformation, challenged the delegates and lead to good, in depth conversations amongst them. Saturday afternoon had a tangible transformation. As the song Beautiful Things by Gungor played, the delegates brought a white, previously used and stained

Prayer was a key emphasis on Sunday morning as Major Patricia Burr set up prayer stations all around the pavilion at Camp Sebago. As delegates participated and moved from one station to the next, Romans 12:1-2 was at the forefront of everyones mind as the prayer stations challenged everyone to live lives that were transformed by God. Major James LaBossiere delivered the message Sunday morning which resulted in people feeling Gods presence. As some prayed at the altars and other responded to a call for leadership in the Army, the moving of the Spirit was witnessed and felt. While the foliage is certainly a beautiful change to witness, the transformation that happened at Camp Sebago by the work of the Holy Spirit was astonishing; Praise be to God for the work he is doing in the lives of the youth in Northern New England.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of Gods mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to Godthis is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what Gods will ishis good, pleasing and perfect will. - Romans 12:1-2

UNITED KICK-OFF

Musicians and Bible Bowlers Unite!

Camp Sebago was abuzz Oct. 12th and 13th with over 60 youth and leaders from 13 Corps across the Division! What was the reason for such a great gathering? It was time once again for the UNITED kick o! Friday night Corps arrived in the early evening with enough time to check in, get settled into the HEATED cabins of camp, and get back to Sebago Hall for what would prove to be a very exciting and hilarious Bible Bowl Scrimmage! Two rounds were played. The rst had Bangor, Nashua, and Old Orchard Beach competing with Bangor pulling ahead for the rst win of the season! The next round Laconia joined in on the fun, bringing it to a 4 team competition! This time Old Orchard Beach was able to get the win. This weekend proved it is going to be a great season of intense competition! The rest of the night continued on with United Chorus; with Drew Poulopoulos going over the dierent songs they would be working on over the course of the year. Next came snacksgood old chips and cheese dip! So good! There were games left out and many stayed late in the Dining Hall having a great time of fellowship over games and snacks. Saturday people rose early for breakfast and Youth Praise. All were grateful to the worship band which consisted of Captain Al of the Youth Department, Captain Steve of the Laconia Corps and Captain Larry of the Keane Corps. Then Captain Al brought a wonderful message reminding all of why UNITED was happeningto give glory to Godnot to show o our talents. Next up were auditions! Students had the opportunity to audition for all available tracks this year which include: brass, timbrels, select chorus, sacred dance, drama and tech. Each student was given a score from the leader and Drew will be working to create schedules for all the students for the remaining UNITEDs. The weekend ended with a fun, fall fellowship activity: apple picking! The delegation caravanned over to Randalls Orchard in Standish. The weather was perfect with the sun shining, a crisp breeze in the air, and big uy clouds! Apple pickers were even fortunate enough to watch a plane land in the eld right next to the

trees! Overall the weekend was decidedly a HUGE success! UNITED is an event the Divisional Youth and Music Departments put on periodically throughout the year. The event is open to all students who are in 7th grade through college. The cost is $5 per person. If you would like to attend

And nally a big thank you to all the leaders who took time out of your busy schedules to bring your students. We couldnt have had UNITED without you! CADETS CORNER
Each issue well check in with our Cadets at School For Officers Training (SFOT). This issue its the adorable Lyle Family! Heres an update in their own words:

Hello to everyone back home!! Joel, Jordan and I are doing well. We have adjusted to this new, busy, and exciting lifestyle and are all settled in and unpacked. We love it here and we feel so blessed everyday with the new things God has been showing us and teaching us. For a little update on Jordan; he is crawling, pulling himself up on furniture and he is almost walking!!! He has a total of four teeth now and more on the way. He loves family care and his teachers. And to top it off he is now sleeping through the night!!! Woo hoo for mom and dad! As far as our studies go, being that we are first year cadets and its our first quarter of classes, we are learning about the Old Testament, various ways of reading the Bible and how to interpret, and the history of the Salvation Army. Along with these classes, we are also taking Doctrine, Worship, Music-band/timbrels, Chorus, Health and Wellness, and a few others. There is nothing overly hard, the only thing that did take some time to get used to was, finding a good balance between our personal time with God, family time, study time, and social time. We have got a routine down now and it seems to be all falling in place! Our prayer requests are: * Prayer as we conclude our first quarter to continue our focus and motivation. * For our health, for sick season is coming up

BIBLE BOWL

Happy Quizzing! Good luck to our Divisional Bible Bowl teams this year: Bangor, Laconia, Nashua and Old Orchard Beach! This year these teams are studying the book of Matthew. May you learn so much about Gods love for you through this time of studying His word! We are so excited to have these four teams but would love to see more! If you are interested in starting a team please contact Captain Amanda in the Youth Department. Students must be 7th through 12th graders.

NNERDY DEVOTIONAL
And so we carve and scoop away all the gunk and seeds. Once its totally clean and carved to our others, that they may see your good deeds and satisfaction we are able to place a candle in it and put it glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16 out on the front porch so that light can shine through the dark night. I love everything about fall. I love the leaves, I love I think a lot of times we get tricked into thinking that wearing scarves and sweaters, and I love warm coee accepting Christ is the end. That once weve asked and apple pie. But what I really love is pumpkins! I Jesus into our hearts we are done and set. But really love pumpkin spice anything, pumpkin pie, and I thats only the beginning! God does forgive us of our especially love carving Jack O Lanterns. I recently heard a beautiful illustration about how we as Christians sins but there are still things in us that dont belong, things that make it dicult for our light to shine. We are like pumpkins (which I of course loved!) have seeds of anger or selshness or greed or rejection Have you ever picked your own pumpkin? As you that have taken root and have grown in us, creating goo walk through the eld you see all kinds of dusty, dirty, and gunk. And so God carves and scoops out the gunk mud covered pumpkins. But you know that with a bit and seeds in us; he removes it and that changes us. of work they will be beautiful and good. And so you Its hard and painful but in the end we are so much take it home. You wash it o, all the dirt, muck and more beautiful and goodbecause we are more Christmud. This is the same with God. He sees us in our like and our light shines so brightly for all to see in this dirtiness and muck and chooses us anyway. He sent Jesus to wash away all our sins. He makes us beautiful dark world! and good. But thats not the end of the story is it? When we get that pumpkin home and cleaned up, we then have to clean it out. There are all kinds of goo - written by: Melissa Lowell and slimy seeds in there that can stop the pumpkin from fullling its job as a Jack O Lantern. In the same way, let your light shine before
