Course description
This course is a survey of Internet origins, structure, and components. Students will be provided with and overview of Internet access options and tools, with an emphasis on web browsing, email, and search techniques. This course is concerned with concepts of Internet use and will not focus on any one particular piece of software. The intent is to use a variety of software tools to accomplish the desired learning objectives. Prerequisite: INFT 215 or instructor permission Must have knowledge and skills in typing, basic computers, and internet.

Instructional method
This course is primarily a lecture/survey type course, so there will be limited hands-on activity. However, every effort will be made to provide such application as time and resources permit. Grades will be based on a combination of assignments, quizzes, the mid-term and final exam. Due to the limited time frame, quizzes and exams will be given at the WCC Testing Center. You must provide your WCC photo ID to take tests at the Testing Center. Students need to maintain the following average for each grade: 91-100=A 81-90=B 71-80=C 61-70=D <61=F The list of objectives below will constitute the expected outcome of this course, so students should refer to it frequently as a study guide.

Grading
Grades will be based on a combination of assignments, quizzes, the mid-term and final exam. Due to the limited time frame, quizzes and exams will be given at the WCC Testing Center. You must provide your WCC photo ID to take tests at the Testing Center. In detail, then: Attendance Attendance is critical. When the number of absences exceeds two class periods, you may be dropped from the class, so make sure to contact the instructor if you are to be absent. Be prepared to attend every class and be prepared to learn. You are responsible for obtaining material, which may have been distributed on class days in which you may be absent. This can be done through contacting a classmate who was present or by contacting the instructor during her office hours or via email. Assignments Assignments will be given in class and graded according to the following: To receive 100% of points: The assignment will be turned in by the end of class on the day it is due. All papers are due on the day specified. Assignments may be brought to class or placed in the basket labeled D Banks in the Canyon Computer Lab 103. Papers will be picked up immediately after class on the day they are due, any paper turned in after that time is considered late. The assignment will be complete. It will contain everything listed on the assignment sheet. The assignment will have less than 10% total errors. To receive 85% of points: The assignment will be turned in within one week of the date due. The assignment will have less that 20% total errors. To receive 60% of points: The assignment will be turned in within two weeks of the due date. The assignment is incomplete. The assignment will have more than 20% total errors. Any assignment handed in more than two weeks after the due date will be corrected for learning purposes but will receive a grade of zero. Quizzes Short review quizzes will be given each week and will be available in the WCC Testing Center only during that week. Students will be instructed as to the subject matter covered by each quiz during the first class session of that week. Each quiz will cover approximately one quarter of the course content and students will not be allowed to use notes, texts, or other resources.

Mid- term exam There will be a comprehensive mid-term exam over the first half of the course (see objectives listed above). The mid-term exam will be available in the WCC Testing Center only during the week specified in the Tentative Schedule. Students will not be allowed to use notes, texts, or other resources.
