A building built out of love and memories In memory of Alexander and Zachary Rohloff. Rolis Muscle Cars, LLC, was built in memory of the twin boys who died tragically in 2009. The twins had a vision of working in the automobile industry when they reached an age to be able to do so. Taking after their fathers passion for anything that is motorized, it would be no surprise that there would be vision. After the tragedy that struck the Rohloff family in 2009, their father, Brian Rohloff, decided that building their dream was a way for him to heal. The grand opening of Rolis Muscle Cars begins the second phase of Mr. Brian Rohloffs dream to carry on his sons names. The first phase was the building and completion of the mini museum at his residence in Valley Falls, NY. This location has been open to the public since June of 2011. Tours are given by request of the hand painted garage that is currently home to the Rohloff collection. Since the opening of this location it has been home to many car and motorcycle events that have been held to raise money for many different not-for-profit organizations. Double H Ranch, The Community Hospice, and the Ronald McDonald House have been the organizations of choice. The team at Rolis Muscle Cars, LLC have also participated in many other fundraising events, including events for The Times Union Hope Fund and Peaceful Acres Horse Rescue. In August of 2011 Mr. Rohloff began selling pre-owned vehicles out of the Valley Falls location. His intent at that point was to help out the surrounding communities by providing affordable vehicles. He began hosting a Buy Here Pay Here program to his neighbors. With hard times hitting his community, he thought if he could offer affordable transportation, then he could help people get back on their feet. They could find ways to get to work and to begin to rebuild their credit. Rebuild their lives. Business began to blossom at a steady rate and Mr. Rohloff began using a vacant lot he owned in Schaghticoke, NY to house the growing business. It did not take long for him to realize that he would need a separate location for this portion of his business. Construction on the new location is almost complete. In October of 2011 Mr. Rohloff decided that he needed to begin adding some staff to assist in his business. He would need someone who came from a fundraising background to assist with the fundraising efforts that he wanted to achieve. He also needed someone who could run the operation for him while he was gone. He decided to hire Tracy Paige as his General Manager for Rolis Muscle Cars, LLC. With a resume that stretches back over 26 years in the automotive industry and covers all aspects of the industry, she was the perfect choice. Her resume includes: Public Relations Director for the Saratoga Automobile Museum, Chrysler Team Leader for Saratoga Polo, Public Relations Director for Fonda Speedway, and Motorsports Editor at Redline Motorsports Magazine. She has also managed and owned several different automotive publications, as well as her own production company. She was the one to take Rolis Muscle Cars to the next level. The new building in Schaghticoke will be just as unique as the one in Valley Falls, NY. Being built to look like a vintage gas station, this building will offer not only great deals to the consumer but will also be a great visual to all who stop by to visit this location. Vintage gas pumps are installed, complete with signs from the past. This building will begin a new phase of fundraising for the growing company, beginning on the day of the opening with the 1st Annual Rolis Spook Fest heading the day. Vehicles are encouraged to come dressed for the day. There will be trophies, dash plaques, goody bags, a Chinese Auction, and many other fund activities for the entire family to enjoy. All monies collected that day will be going directly to the Ronald McDonald House of Albany. If the kids would like to stop by and meet Ronald McDonald himselfhe will be on the premises from 10 am to 2 pm. November will be a month of fundraising for both the troops fighting and also our countries veterans. Rolis will be a drop off point for any American flags that you no longer need. These flags will be donated to an organization called Stars for Troops, who will be collecting these flags and sending along memories for those in our military. Also during the month of November, we will be working with local food kitchens to take donations and a portion of vehicle sales in the month of November will be donated to food kitchens for Thanksgiving dinner. December will be about the elderly in the capital district. Santa will be riding his sleigh this year to local nursing homes to drop off teddy bears for those who may not have any family. Teddies for Christmas will be our goal. This dealership is built on a mission statement of giving back to the community. Assisting those who have credit challenges, assisting those who want that classic vehicle in their driveway. Assisting those who need trailers. We will be unique. We will work for your business, we will work every day to touch someones life in a positive manner. If we can make a difference every day to one person, the staff at Rolis Muscle Cars, LLC has done their job.

POLLY POLLSTER
The Toy Hall at The Strong in Rochester, NY, recently announced the 12 finalists for 2012 induction. Besides the little beauties from a galaxy far, far away, other nominees include: the Magic 8 Ball, Clue, Twister, Simon, Lite-Brite, plastic green army men, the pogo stick, sidewalk chalk, dominoes, the tea set and the Fisher-Price Corn Popper push toy. Heres where it gets tough. Only two (TWO!) of those dozen finalists will make it into the Toy Hall of Fame. The winners will be revealed Nov. 15. So, this week we asked: Who will be inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame this year? 50% said Twister; 40% said pogo stick and 10% voted for various others. Our polls are not scientifically done, but they do reflect the thinking of some people in our area. What do you think? If you have a question to pose to Polly, e-mail it to shoppers1@earthlink.net.

Hrs: M-Thu 5:30am-10pm. Fr 5:30am-9pm. www.physicaladvantage.net Sa 8am-6pm. Sun 8am-2pm EXCITING NEW OPPORTUNITIES AT THE CCC. Two new classes will be offered for children for the first time this fall at the Salem Courthouse Community Center. The first, Puppet Club, will be offered for children in grades 3 through 6 on Tuesdays until January 15 at 2:30 pm. Students will learn to manipulate puppets, make a sound track and change scenery. They will also learn all aspects of a professional performance which will be held on January 22. Play selection will be determined by the number of children involved, and possible choices include: The Nutcracker, The Gingerbread Man and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The second new class is Chime Choir which will be offered to students in grades 3 through 6 on Tuesdays, until January 15 at 3:35 pm. The chimes are set up like a piano keyboard and the children will learn to play using music similar to piano music. The children will learn the correct ringing techniques and rhythm reading leading to a performance on January 22 as well. Chime Choir for adults will also be offered the same day starting at 5 pm utilizing the same techniques. Debi Craig will be the instructor for the three groups. Debi has 34 years of teaching experience and has organized a Puppet Club and Chime Choir in the Dorothy Nolan Elementary School in Saratoga Springs where her students performed at many events and festivals. Newly retired, Debi is seeking to offer this great learning opportunity to children in this area. For additional information, please contact the CCC or visit the website at www.salemcourthouse.org. IS THE SALEM COURTHOUSE COMMUNITY CENTER REALLY HAUNTED? It has long been suspected that the Courthouse Community Center is haunted, and it will be proven when Fear This returns with ghouls and spooky creatures from beyond the grave. The annual Halloween haunting will take place 3 weekends in October: Friday and Saturday 26 & 27. Sunday, October 28. The haunted tours will take place between 6:00 and 9:30 pm. UNCLE WALLY WONDERS

The President says the mess we are in is all George Bushs fault. I wonder. I do agree Mr Bush allowed too much spending on pork barrel projects..in which respect he was acting more like a liberal than a compassionate conservative. But,to blame it ALL on him is ludicrus. Mr Bush was dealing with a Congress that had been taken over by radical liberals; sometimes referred to as progressives. . The day theliberals took over was actually January 3rd 2007, the day democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate, at the very start of the 110th Congress. At that time: The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77. The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%. The Unemployment rate was 4.6% (U-3). George Bush's Economic policies (along with some Clinton policies) set a record of 52 straight months of job growth. January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee, dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic loans on the economy from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOES! Bush asked Congress 17 times to stop Fannie & Freddie - starting in 2001 because it was financially risky for the US economy. The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy? BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES! The result was unemployment... like we have never seen since the great depression. And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie? OBAMA and the Democrat Congress. So when someone tries to blame Bushremember JANUARY 3rd, 2007.... the day Pelosi and Reid took over. Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democrat Party. Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 & 2009 as well as 2010 &2011. In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush, somewhat belatedly, got tough on spending increases. For 2009 budget though, Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid bypassed the George Bush budget entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budgets. (The Democratically controlled Senate has yet to propose a budgetsomething unheard of heretofore!) And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009. If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets. If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself. In a nutshell, really what Obama is saying is I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold. But, to argue Democrat vs Republican failings begs the real issue in this election. The real issue is do we want to continue the capitalistic and governing methods that helped make this the greatest republic on earth or do we want to fall into socialism under a powerful centralized government? The election, in my view, is between we the people and an opressive government. We better choose wisely. Remember, a government that seizes the power to give also will exercise the power to take. "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.." -- Winston Churchill. (Is this why Obama sent his bust back?) These are possibly the 5 best reasons to vote for America's future in this election. 1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity. 2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. 3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. 4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. 5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them; and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work, because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of a prosperous nation

Something is not quite right here. We had to have the garage door repaired. The Sears repairman told us that one of our problems was that we did not have a 'large' enough motor on the opener. I thought for a minute, and said that we had the largest one Sears made at that time, a 1/2 horsepower. He shook his head and said, 'Sir, you need a 1/4 horsepower.' I responded that 1/2 was larger than 1/4. He said, 'NO, it's not..Four is larger than two.' Is it our education system?

Something is not quite right here. When my wife and I arrived at an automobile dealership to pick up our car, we were told the keys had been locked in it. We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver's-side door. As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked. 'Hey,' I announced to the technician, 'it's open!' His reply: 'I know. I already got that side . '

Reservations encouraged: $25 includes $6 for coffee and dessert. (518) 854-9200 or www.fortsalemtheater.com Nov 3: Broadways Bill Carmichael, The Patriotic and Political Songs of Gershwin For thirty years, Broadway vet Bill Carmichael created memorable roles starting with the original version of Forbidden Broadway in 1982 in a career that spanned stints in Cathy Rigbys Peter Pan, Les Misrables, and Ragtime, until Bill was featured in the original cast of Mamma Mia! Recently retiring to a second career with his dancer/wife Susan Burk as proprietors of Emerson House, a bed-and-breakfast in Vergennes, Vermont, Bill has performed three memorable Fort Salem cabarets, including his tuneful tribute to Richard Rodgers two years ago. This past summer, he co-starred in Significant Others, finally succumbing to the Forts pleas to act and sing on their Mainstage. Just in time to offer food for undecided voter thought, Bill presents a brandnew salute to the political and social messages contained in the music and lyrics of George and Ira Gershwin. The brothers satirical musical, Of Thee I Sing, written with George S. Kaufman, was the first musical ever to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The plot poked fun at politicians, political conventions, and political platforms. Hmmm. Chances are these songs will be welcome relief from the bi-partisan drivel of the ongoing presidential campaign. Vote for Carmichael and Gershwin this November! Nov. 10: Manhattan cabaret artist, Lynne Kerr, in MORE Songs My Husband Wrote Lynne Kerr began her professional singing career while still in college, appearing on the Uncle Floyd Show, a staple on NYC metropolitan area cable TV. She recalls her family watching the taped show in stunned silence, unable to think of anything to say following the broadcast. That encouraged her to put the singing on hold until, twelve years later, now working in Manhattan, she decided to take Big City singing lessons to fill a void in her newly single life following a short first marriage. Its a cinch to teach someone who already can sing, confesses her teacher and the Forts Artistic Director, Jay Kerr. The lessons were so successful, the two got married. Lynnes last foray onto the Fort stage was two years ago at the Release Party for her CD, Songs My Husband Wrote. This selection of recorded songs, around which book writer Al Budde crafted the tale of a Mississippi riverboat taking its final voyage, spawned 2011s Mainstage hit, Senior Moments. In More Songs, Lynne sings some songs written especially for Senior Moments, melodies from Significant Others, plus material new even to veterans of every Fort Salem show ever produced. And a few old favorites. CBS6 Anchor Jerry Gretzinger in Ham and Cheese: Gretzinger Sings the Eighties Jerry Gretzinger was a face familiar to Salem audiences long before he set foot on the Forts cabaret stage in fall of 2009, as part of the now legendary Singing Anchors, a trio in which he shares billing with Jessica Layton and Benita Zahn. Co-anchor, with Liz Bishop, of CBS6s five oclock news broadcast, he has entertained Capital Region audiences in countless theatrical productions, and mounted a very successful outing of Forever Plaid for the Forts 2010 Mainstage season. His tribute to Sinatra, Mostly Frank, originated two years ago for a Salem fall cabaret, went on to be arranged for a seven-piece swing band and broadcast on WAMC. The show and the band returned to the Fort Salem Mainstage last spring, selling even more tickets than the original. In discussing potential new show ideas while rehearsing Sinatra last spring, Jerry confessed that he had a special unrequited love for the cheesy songs of the eighties. Thus, the new show was born. With so many classic performances to choose from, from Wham, Bon Jovi, Depeche Mode, Psychedelic Furs, Split Enz and Simple Minds, one can forget that the decade also offered iconic songs from Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, George Michael, and even Frank Sinatra. Rest assured, Jerry has not forgotten, and promises a roster of tunes that will either take you back to simpler times, or introduce you to some well-cured but obscure cheese to make you wish youd paid better attention back in the day. Nov. 24: The Farm Family Players in Thanks! A Performance of Gratitude Celebrating seven years of farm life in Hebron, one of the areas most talented families returns to the Forts cabaret, this time with one more child, two high school seniors, and a universally beautiful family. At the helm of the real-life family, all of whom portrayed the Crachits in the 2007 Fort Salem Mainstage production of A Christmas Carol, Kimerer LaMothe, former Harvard lecturer, is a philosopher and dancer who writes books and teaches dance residencies; Geoffrey Gee is a composer and soundware designer who teaches instrumental music at Long Trail School in Dorset, Vermont, and serves as organist for the South Granville Congregational Church. Their children, Jordan (17), Jessica (15), Kyra (11), Kai (7), and Leif (3), are farmers; each and all talented, they are the newly-dubbed Farm Family Players. Abandoning the cows and chickens for a cabaret evening, the family takes the Thanksgiving weekend to express their gratitude for the parents twenty years of married life and their son Jordans successful brain surgery this summer. As the Farm Family Players, Kimerer, Geoff and their five children offer a feast of performing arts, serving up a diverse menu including vocal harmonies, solo ballads, and instrumental music featuring piano, saxophone, and flute, all seasoned with a touch of dance. Dec 1: Gretzinger/Layton/Zahn in The Singing Anchors Annual Holiday Show Benita Zahn, anchor and health reporter for NewsChannel 13, performed in the first season of Fort Salems cabaret in the summer of 2007, and has graced one or both of the Forts stages every season since. In the fall of 2009, she brought along Channel 13 colleague, Jessica Layton, and their Channel 6 friend, Jerry Gretzinger. Their Fort Salem Theater presents The Singing Anchors has not only consistently filled the cabaret and Mainstage in Salem, but venues throughout the Capital Region, including shows at the Linda Norris Auditorium in Albany, broadcast on WAMC, a recent concert at the Clifton Park-Half Moon Public Library, and a stint headlining at Saratogas First Night in 2011. To which we now add a traditional holiday show. Traditions die hard and appear quickly. Last year, at the behest of Jessica Layton, the anchors abandoned their repertoire of Broadway and Hollywood standards to give their particular twist to the most wonderful time of the year (a song they dont sing in their show). Looking as shiny and colorful as a decorated Christmas tree, The Singing Anchors bring their special talents to the warm holiday classics, sharing the sounds of the season with people of deep religious faith or none at all. Its a family-friendly romp through a musical winter wonderland (they do sing that one). Jay Kerr Artistic Director Fort Salem Theater jay@fortsalemtheater.com (518) 854-9200
