Your comment, please~ ABOUT THE RESERVE President Hazel J. Raines will be going back to Sad Sack for another five weeks period of Reserve Training in June. She has applied for extended active duty status which is an assignment for a period of three years. Correspondence concerning Reserve activities may be addressed to: Lt. Hazel J. Grona served six days in April and will serve another trick in July. This duty training is being given Lt. Grona by the Organized Reserve Training Division in S A. At the present the uniform color is light tan with garison cap; however, the uniform is being changed to blue with a new type of design or style which will become regulation wear in January 1951. This new uniform was designed by Hattie Carnegie, noted as a creator of highly fashionable clothes for American Women. The collar and tie have been abandoned (Hear!) in the new uniform design and contemporary fashion in silhouette and length has been followed. (Contemp. for 1/51?)

Is one permitted to wear civilian clothes when not on duty?

Is there a booklet on the WAF with informative

reading material available?

Such a booklet is not yet available. The best way to find out more about the WAF program or WAF activities is to take an active part in the Reserve Program. As an officer in the Air Force Reserve, you are entitled to serve 15 days on Active Duty per fiscal year, plus a ~BXimum of 48 training periods with pay status. Question: What does one have to do in order to participate Program? in the Reserve Training

Contact the Officer in Charge of your nearest Reserve Training Center or write the Commanding General of the Area of your command (the place where you applied for your commission). It is up to you to ASK for Reserve Training. I am sure that you will then be given all the assistance and information that you will need. Question: NO! As an Officer in the Air Force ReGel~e, am I allowed flying time? may fly only as passengers in Military Aircraft.

Ex-WASP with Reserve Commissions

Question:

I received a letter from Headquarters saying that I am appointed a GENERAL in the Air Force Reserve and that the commission will be furnished at an undetermined date. I am wondering if anyone has received such commission papers, and just how long a time is required to lapse before such papers are received. To my knowledge, not one X-WASP has received official papers of any definite commission appointment. The only thing that any X-WASP who actually has a Commission can take substantial reliance upon is her letter of appointment. GUARD that letter with your life; have several photostatic copies made and rent a safety-deposit box at your local bank for their safe-keeping. Official letters of Commission appointment shall be issued soon. The NEWSLETTER Editor would take it kindly if the WASP so concerned by her elevation would send a photostatic copy to the Editorial Office. Anonymity is promised.

As an officer in the reserve you are eligible to make such application. duty is three years. Question: How do I make application for Active Duty with the WAF?

Application is made thru AF Form 125, and is submitted to the Commanding General of the area of your Command. Question: Am I required to purchase a uniform if I serve in the Organized Reserve?

Yes, in order to participate actively in the Organized Reserve Program, you are required to wear the Air Force Uniform. Question: In order to participate in Organized Reserves, how much will I have to spend on uniform equipment?

You, as an officer, can get by on a minimum expense for uniforms for about $30.00. Actual uniform expenses depend on the individual. If you can get by on just a couple of shirts and skirts, a tie, and a pair of shoes you "have it made!" "In the event we have not been able to give you the information that you desire, inquiries regarding your appointment in the United States Air Force Reserve or matters pertaining thereto should be addressed to the Commanding General of the numbered Air Force to whom you sent your application."
