Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 4th. Be sure to turn your clocks BACK one hour before going to bed on Saturday, November 3rd. Putting Feet to Our Faith
James 2: 14-26 tells us that faith is of no benefit unless it prompts us into action. We have a great opportunity coming up November 10th to demonstrate our faith in service to others. We all have gifts and abilities that are intended to be used to share Gods love and the good news about Jesus with the world around us. Maybe you are not comfortable speaking in front of others or teaching a class, but God can use you to make a difference in someones life. Saturday, November 10th from 9am to noon will be our Go Forth Weekend There is a signup sheet on the bulletin board with different areas of service. We will have teams cutting firewood, raking leaves, doing some oil changes, cleaning the building and doing some neighborhood evangelism. If you are willing to help with any of these areas, please sign up and be a part of putting feet to our faith.

THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

David Platt in his book, Radical writes: The gift of grace involves the gift of a new heart; new desires; new longings. For the first time, we want God. We see our need for Him, and we love Him. We seek after Him, and we find Him, and we discover that He is indeed the great reward of our salvation. We realize that we are saved not just to be forgiven of our sins or to be assured of our eternity in Heaven, but we are saved to know God. So we yearn for Him. We want Him so much that we abandon everything else to experience Him. This is the only proper response to the revelation of God in the Gospel. In our last sermon series, we asked you to consider where you stand with Jesus. Are you a fan or a follower? Ask yourself today, are you seeking Him with reckless abandon? Are you yearning, not to know more about Him but simply to know Him? Paul wrote: I want to know Christ and to know Him more. Make that your prayer this week! In His Service, Brad

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

SPECIAL NOTE TO MY SENIOR FRIENDS:

(Before you worry about my mental balance, let me assure you I know what I am doing. I am repeating this article, from last week, because I want to make sure you hear me.) I want to encourage all of you to help make our new Director of Childrens Ministries welcome. Hannah is now with us each weekend (Friday evening through Sunday). Would you consider inviting Hannah for a meal (your home or a restaurant)? She will, also, require housing on the weekends until May. Would that be a possibility? Do get to know this fine young lady who is now working with our children. (There is a signup sheet posted on our main bulletin board.)
SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY:

SCOTTS THOUGHTS
Worship is not about what we like. It is about who we love. We often describe our gatherings as a worship service, but who is being served? Whether you prefer things to be more traditional or more modern, the challenge is to not see the worship service as defined by our preferences. I find it interesting that worship is described in scripture as a sacrifice and an offering and yet in our flesh we often judge a service based on what was offered to us. Our worship is directed toward God. He is the audience and we are coming to bring ourselves as a sacrifice, an offering and the primary criteria of what is acceptable is found in John 4:23-24 where Jesus says true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. In the old testament, God was often displeased with worship that was done according to the letter of the law but not coming from the heart. Father, help us to surrender self, see you and give ourselves to you in worship, because we love you and you have captured our hearts.

This week (10/28), the theme is Out Of The Fear And Dread Of The Tomb (II Corinthians 5:1-10). Next Sunday evening (11/4) the title of the message is, Helping Others Find Christ (II Corinthians 5:11-6:2). If you are not involved in a small group, on Sunday evenings, I encourage you to join us. Communion is available for those who desire. Also, remember that we now have activities for children each Sunday evening. I regret that it became necessary to cancel classes this past week. However, this week (10/31) we will continue our study of The Church Through The Ages. Why not join us for the 10:00 am or 6:30 pm session.
WEDNESDAYS: KEENAGERS IN NOVEMBER: I am urging

that our activity, in November, be giving our support to the special Thanksgiving fellowship on Sunday evening, November 18. Do plan to attend!
FINAL THOUGHT: The average mans idea

of a good sermon is one that goes over his head and hits his neighbor.

COMMUNION PREPARATION 1st Worship 2nd Worship GREETERS 1st Worship 2nd Worship Last week in Childrens Church we learned about giving up our fears to the Lord. Some fears the children gave to the Lord were spiders, snakes and clowns. However, we know that as the years go on, our fears become much more serious issues whether it be finances, health or death. It seems that as our fears become bigger, it sometimes becomes harder to give them up to the Lord. This holiday season, let us remember to give all of our fears up to the Lord and know that he can take care of them no matter how big or small. Isaiah 41:13 For I am the Lord your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. *Thank you to everyone that helped out with the Fall Festival!!! Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
