1. Why picture frames frequency is 25 per second in India and 30 per second in USA? 2. Why green, red, and blue are called primary colours? 3. What type of mixing occur : (i) in formation of image of an object on the target plate. (ii) in picture being seen at the screen of the colour picture tube. 4. Why are purple colours called nonspectral colours? 5. Why is luminance signal transmitted in colour system? 6. What do you understand by red gun? 7. What is difference between tonal gradation and contrast? 8. What is PMPO? 9. Whats the difference between conventional stereo and surround sound? 10. Why is a loudspeaker sometimes called a reverse transducer?

Answer: 1. Picture frames frequency in India is 25 per second and 30 per second in USA. This difference in the two systems is due to electric main frequency which is used. Eurepe (adopted by India) uses 50 Hz and America uses 60 Hz 2. Green, red, and blue are called primary colours because all other colours can be obtained by mixing these three colours in appropriate proportions. 3. (i) In formation of image of an object on the target plate : subtractive mixing (ii) In picture being seen at screen of the colour picture tube : additive mixing 4. Purple colours are called non-spectral colours because the mixtures of red and blue are at the extremes of the visible spectrum, the mixtureof these two primaries are not visible in the rainbow

5. Luminance signal is transmitted in a colour system in order to adjust the output which is used. For example if the pixel of the output has a colour, the output will be automatically reduced to the value of its brightness as perceived by eyes. 6. Red gun the electro gun of the gun of the picture tube which produces electron beam whose strength depends on the voltage pertaining to the intensity of red colour. 7. Differences between tonal gradation and contrast : Tonal gradation : variation from pixel to pixel Contrast : the variation of the individual pixels of the general average brightness 8. PMPO is Peak Music Power Output which represents the peak power contained in the loud note produced by musians for a moment on the musical instrument to give special effect. 9. Differences between conventional sound and surround sound: Conventional or stereophonic sound system allows the listener to judge whether the sound is coming from the left side of the stage from the right side Surround sound is produced by introducing delay in the audio signal produced for two channels of stereophonic system. 10. Loudspeaker is usually called reverse transducer because audio signal is converted back to sound by loudspeaker.

MULTIPLE CHOICE

1. In a still picture, intensity of light is constant for the whole picture any instant of time. This statement is false. 2. Aspect ratio for width to height for a TV picture frame is 4:3. 3. The number of interruption in projecting movie pictures on a cinema screen are 24. 4. Eyes can accommodates the contrast ratio of 10:1 with case. 5. Green light is incident on a blue object placed in dark room. The colour of the object will be black. 6. The wavelength of green for TV standard is 546.1 nm. 7. A 600 W PMPO type audio amplifier will give about 50 W average of continuous output. 8. Ears are not sensitive to phase noise in the sound. This statement is false. 9. Eyes are not sensitive to phase noise in the picture. This statement is true. 10. Transformer is not a transducer.
