Ok I'll probably open a can of worms What are the pros and cons of an intercooler ? Local auto transmission place in Kunda Park ( near Maroochydore ) said they did 1 recently for Tim ( I think) of Nambour.

I intercooled 196. Then I squirted more fuel in until the at out exhaust temperature was about 500C. I reckon I got a nice increase in max power. Cheers, Peter -Cheers Peter, OKA196 Motorhome. http://www.oka4wd.com/xt196.htm

Peter, Interested in your intercooler on your website. Where did you get it? Did you plumb it by turning the old turbo to inlet connector upside down, going downon the turbo side and then back up on the other side over the top of the engine and backinto inlet? That looks like the easiest route but I wonder about thebig increase indistance and volume of air betwwen the turbo and the inlet compared with standard Also I have been looking at trying to t 2 extra shocks to my XT front end. Did 196 have two or four standard?(not sure what vin number was the rst LT) cheers Rick P.S. I am getting closer to nishing structural conversion of #149 busbody to camper. ..been so much work I thinkitmay have been better to start with clean sheetdo thecamper from scratch as you have done.196 is great example

I had a specialist in Adelaide t it Rick. It was built for the job. Don't have a clue beyond that, except it did allow more fuel to be burnt at full throttle. The old turbo inlet is upsidedown from memory. XT196 had single front shocks. I added the second pair. Big bolt and some small webs at the bottom have done the job well. Top was easy too, just another big bolt and some plate to get it in the right position. I was worried about the lower mount strength, but not a problem in 160,000km. Did you nd the extra two shocks on the front made a lot of difference to the ride and handling? If so, in what conditions? Cheers, Alister

Pretty hard to judge Alister as I added them soon after I got the vehicle. I gured that the later ones had twins as standard, so it was probably a good idea.It is certainly "not over shocked" though. I have been running 'garden variety' Munroes because I had some second hand ones. I only recently tted a couple of new adjustable Powerdowns and I adjusted them to about about half way. Seem great and they were under $100 each. Would seem like a better idea to have 4 soft ones than 2 hard ones in terms of heat generation and shocker life and fade although I have to say the OKA is very kind to shockers. -Cheers Peter, OKA196 Motorhome. http://www.oka4wd.com/xt196.htm

There was more said about shock absorbers here. On intercoolers, there was also this thread on the old forum. -Hal

Hal have you got a link or a copy of the article on your mods to the air intake tract, I've often thought that it would be restrictive. thanks Peter -Oka 374 LT Van

Wrong vehicle I think Peter, mine's close to standard. If you were looking at >>The airbox is a big restrictor on an OKA and hope to have full gures with all options soon. See my home page for the airbox upgrade we have done.<< that was David Hallandal being quoted, and his homepage has air intake info down the bottom. -Hal
