cense or ID card. Take photos and videos and keep them with your inventory list. While we hope that you dont become a victim of burglary, having an inventory list on hand will help make a stressful situation feel a little more comforting, knowing that you can account for all of your valuables.
Just in Case
Make sure all guns are registered and secured in a gun safe that is bolted to a wall or floor. Should they be stolen, the Police Department will need the make, model caliber and serial number
for each firearm stolen. Make a list of your belongings and associated serial numbers: keep receipts for expensive items like TVs, stereos, computers, laptops, and game systems. Keep a master list at on off site location, which is also important in case of a house fire. Photograph and/or video tape possessions: This is a convenient way of keeping a record of your property, room by room. Engrave or inscribe all of your property: Never use your Social Security number for this purpose, but your Drivers license number, including the state is a great option (example: CAS1010101).
MANAGERS CORNER
Where has the year 2012 gone??? It seems that just a while ago we were seeing the children out of school for the summer vacation and now here it is almost Thanksgiving. The Christmas season will soon be upon us. The Management and staff of Spanish Ranch #1 MHP and Rutherford Management want to wish all our residents a Happy Thanksgiving. We here in the United States experience everyday many blessings that others throughout the world can only dream. We are truly rich compared to most of the worlds population. With the Holiday seasons rapidly approaching, we would like to reiterate our concerns for an ongoing problem. That problem is unauthorized parking in the visitor parking areas. This situation is becoming an epidemic and will grow worse with the holiday season rapidly drawing near. Please, please do not park your extra cars in the visitor parking. If this is your behavior, you are doing a disservice to your neighbors and their visitors by occupying spaces that are for visitor use. During the holiday season is not the time that you want to be saddled with an additional bill in excess of $300.00 to retrieve your vehicle from being towed. Now, you may be asking yourself right about now, What is a visitor? A visitor is someone who does NOT regularly use a home in Spanish Ranch #1 MHP as their residence. The definition of a visitor is as outlined in the Rules and Regulations of Spanish Ranch #1 MHP that each resident signed during their orientation meeting prior to moving into Spanish Ranch #1: A visitor is someone that stays in a residence in our community LESS than twenty days in a row, in one 12 month period OR someone that stays in our community LESS than thirty total days in that same 12 month period. This means that if you are renting a room in your home to someone, they are NOT a visitor and must not park in visitor parking. If your grown child moves back into your home for a period of time MORE than thirty days, they are NOT a visitor. If you have a friend that stays at your home more than thirty days, they are no longer a visitor. The next question is: where do they park? The answer to this is that they park in your driveway or outside the community. The Spanish Ranch #1 MHP Holiday brunch is scheduled for Sunday December 9th, 2012 starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 1 p.m. Mark your calendars. Further information will be forthcoming. [See flyer, page 7.] Now that the Holiday Season is upon us, please continue to be aware of your surroundings. If you see strange activities within the park please report this to your neighborhood watch captain. If the police are called, please attempt to get an incident number and contact the office during normal working hours. Guillermos Corner Guillermo asks that all those that are using the car wash area to please clean up when you have completed washing your vehicle. This would include your empty soap containers, wash cloths and anything else that you brought with you. The car wash areas are NOT a place to dispose of your personal or household trash. This would include any garden debris, such as branches, weeds and other items. Jeff Stoops SR1 Assistant Manager

What Can You Do To Minimize The Chances Of An On-line Exploiter Victimizing Your Child?
Communicate, and talk to your child about sexual victimization and potential on-line danger. Spend time with your children on-line. Have them teach you about their favorite on-line destinations. Keep the computer in a common room in the house, not in your childs bedroom. It is much more difficult for a computer-sex offender to communicate with a child when the computer screen is visible to a parent or another member of the household. Utilize parental controls provided by your service provider and/or blocking software. While electronic chat can be a great place for children to make new friends and discuss various topics of interest, it is also prowled by computer-sex offenders. Use of chat rooms, in particular, should be heavily monitored. While parents should utilize these mechanisms, they should not totally rely on them. Always maintain access to your childs on-line account and
randomly check his/her e-mail. Be aware that your child could be contacted through the U.S. Mail. Be up front with your child about your access and reasons why. Teach your child the responsible use of the resources on-line. There is much more to the on-line experience than chat rooms. Find out what computer safeguards are utilized by your childs school, the public library, and at the homes of your childs friends. These are all places, outside your normal supervision, where your child could encounter an on-line predator. Understand, even if your child was a willing participant in any form of sexual exploitation, that he/she is not at fault and is the victim. The offender always bears the complete responsibility for his or her actions. Instruct your children: to never arrange a faceto-face meeting with someone they met on- line; to never upload (post) pictures of themselves onto the Internet or on-line service to people they do not personally know; to never give out identifying information such as their name, home address, school name, or telephone number; to never download pictures from an unknown source, as there is a good chance there could be sexually explicit images; to never respond to messages or bulletin board postings that are suggestive, obscene, belligerent, or harassing; that whatever they are told on-line may or may not be true. Suspicious Activity
The police cannot function effectively without the assistance of responsible citizens. We need your help in reporting suspicious activity. Some people fail to call because they are not aware of what is considered suspicious. Others notice suspicious activity and assume someone else will call. Still, others fail to call because they feel they are bothering the police. We encourage everyone to call the police IMMEDIATELY if they feel a situation or circumstance is suspicious. DO NOT think you are bothering the police; this is why we are here! DO NOT be embarrassed if your suspicions prove unfounded. IF IN DOUBT, CALL! It is better to err on the side of safety. Following is a list of incidents that should be reported to the police by calling 2937000 (non-emergency) or dialing 9-1 -1 (emergency). This list is not intended to be complete. Use your own judgment when calling the police. Dont assume that someone else has called the police. Dont worry about bothering the police and dont worry about being embarrassed if your suspicions prove unfounded. It is better to act than to think about what could happen if you didnt act at all. HERE ARE EXAMPLES OF WHEN AND WHY YOU SHOULD CALL ABOUT ALL SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY Suspicious Vehicles Certain moving vehicles, especially if slow moving and without lights. Vehicles being loaded with valuables: especially if parked in front of a closed business or untended residence. Abandoned vehicle: Possible stolen car. Vehicle containing weapons. Other unusual activity involving vehicles: Persons attempting forcibly to enter a locked vehicle, especially at night or in a parking lot. Persons removing mechanical parts or accessories from a vehicle, especially at night in the street or a parking lot. Persons being forced into vehicles, especially if juveniles or females. Objects thrown from a vehicle, especially while traveling at high speed. Suspicious Persons Going door-to-door in residential area: Especially suspicious if, after a few houses are visited, one or more of the subjects goes into a back or side yard. Waiting in front of a house or business: Particularly suspicious if owners are absent, or if it is a business establishment that is closed. Forcing entrance to or tampering with a residence, vehicle, etc. Non-resident going into back or side yard of house which could indicate a possible burglary or trespass in progress. Exhibiting unusual mental or physical symptoms. Carrying property if at unusual hours or in an unusual place, and if the property is not wrapped as if just purchased. Situations Involving Property Excess property in homes, private garages, storage areas, etc. especially if accumulations are large or otherwise unusual (such as several TV sets in a garage) and the items are in good condition, but not in use. Property in vehicles: Not suspicious unless the property is not normally found in vehiclesespecially if observed at unusual hours, or if TV sets, stereos, or auto parts are involved. Property carried by persons on foot at an unusual hour or in an
Submitted by SR1s Neighborhood Watch unusual place. Especially questionable if the person is running. Other Unusual Situations Continuous repair operations at a non-business location: Open or broken doors or windows- At closed business or residence whose owners are temporarily absent. Possible significance: Possible burglary in progress or scene of completed burglary. Unusual noises, etc.: Gunshots, screaming, sounds of combat, abnormally barking dogs, anything suggestive of foul play, danger, illegal activity.
must be submitted to Park Management in WRITING and must be SIGNED. Only the person with the problem or concern may file the complaint. None will be accepted from third parties on behalf of someone else. Forms are available in a bin on the wall next to the bulletin board in the main clubhouse AND in almost every issue of the El Toro. Started at 7:00 pm and ended at 8:20 pm. In attendance: Pat Smith, Dawn Plaskon, Jeanie Schultz, Peggy Nichols, Marvin Daley, Clint Dean, Jerry Higgins. Barbara Sacks was excused, Brenda Glover was absent. Guests Patty Little, Kathi Calvert. The Pledge of Allegiance was said. The minutes of the September meeting were approved, with the addition of the line missing at the end saying the notes were submitted by Peggy Nichols in the absence of the Secretary. Treasurers Report was approved. There is a balance of $1,238.97. Resident Concerns: Pat received a call from a resident on Ortega regarding a speeding vehicle. She invited her to the meeting to meet the Neighborhood Watch group. Speeding has been an ongoing complaint for years and there is very little we can do about it. Residents are encouraged to get a description of the vehicle and driver, and the license # if possible and file a complaint with the office. A concern about soliciting in the park was brought up. There have been several reports of people going door to door in the last month. One resident has had two instances of someone going door to door selling something and two more of door to door political stumping. Another resident had a woman going door to door soliciting housework and several reported cable companies knocking on doors soliciting business. A resident was told by the office that if the people live in the park its OK, another that political stumping is not soliciting, and one had the people at the door claim to know the manager so it was OK. Since it has been the longstanding policy of the Park not to allow door-to-door soliciting, doorknob hanging, advertising flyers from outside the park, or any other activity that might involve exposing residents to these types of incursions, it was decided that the President will ask for clarification of the policy from management and let us know if it has changed. [Update from Pat: I sent an e-mail to (regional manager) Greg OHagan and he responded stating that it is TRUE the park does have a policy and does have signs posted at both the front and back gate regarding soliciting. He recommended that those who dont want ANYONE knocking on their door for the purpose of soliciting might purchase a No Soliciting sign for their personal doors. He would then support complaints about violators and would take action up to and including notifying HPD. That way those who DONT object to the kid next door selling their cookies or school raffle stuff or the cable companies soliciting business may participate if they choose.] Committee Reports: Pat reported that the Spaghetti Feed was well attended and a lot of fun. N.E.R.T.Creek Cleanup scheduled for October 20. Jeanie noted that graffiti has been minimal on the wall paralleling Miranda and is mostly concentrated on the overpass out the back gate and in the
several concrete-sided spillways midway. It was suggested that a mural decorate the wall as is being done in other areas of the city to discourage graffiti. [Ed Note: it has been clarified that the wall surface inside the park is park responsibility and the side facing the creek is the countys.] Dawn will find out from the County if we can decorate the wall. Upcoming Events: Halloween Party, October 27 $70 or so remains of the donations from relators earmarked for SR1 resident events so this will rollover to this party. It was unanimously approved to add $30 from the general fund to this amount to bring the Halloween Party budget to an even $100. This is intended to cover food, supplies and prizes in addition to what is already on hand. The Committee, headed by Kathi Calvert, will meet to go through all the Halloween materials currently stashed throughout most of the cabinets in the storage area. Jeanie inventoried the Association cabinets and Peggy inventoried the Neighborhood Watch cabinets, and there appears to be sufficient paper goods and decorations for this event. All Halloween-specific materials will be consolidated into a dedicated cabinet after the event. A flyer about trick-or-treating will go out midmonth and will also ask for help with the Halloween Party. Kathi asked that a line be added asking attendees to bring a donation for the Food Bank barrel. Craft Fair, November 17Initial info in the El Toro which is just getting out. It was approved to allot $50 for items to raffle at the event which might include a gift basket and Michaels gift cards. A followup flyer will be distributed midmonth.Coordinator Patty Little asked for donations for the gift basket. Chili Supper, December 1To capitalize on the success of the Spaghetti Feed, it was decided to have a Chili Supper at the same price scale, $3 adults, $1 age 6-12, under 6 free and bring a dessert to share. This is a Bingo Saturday but will be held afterward beginning at 5 pm. Chili with and without beans will be offered along with corn bread and coleslaw. An announcement of this event will go out with the other flyers since we cant count on the El Toro to get here in time to publicize the event. Respectfully submitted, Jeanie Schultz, Secretary
