PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT


Seaside, CA October 30, 2012 As a result of the recent criminal activity that has occurred in the City of Seaside, the Seaside Police Department, the Monterey County Sheriffs Office, the Monterey County Gang Task Force, the California State University of Monterey Bay, the Marina Police Department, the Sand City Police Department, the Monterey Police Department, the Carmel Police Department, the Del Rey Oaks Police Department, the Pacific Grove Police Department, and the Monterey County District Attorneys Office have pooled resources and made several significant arrests. On Sunday, October 28, 2012, at 4:30 p.m. the Monterey County Gang Task Force initiated a traffic stop and arrested three identified gang members in the City of Seaside: Gabriel Gonzalez (19 years old) Rodolfo Lopez (21 years old), and Oscar Escobedo (19 years old). A handgun, counterfeit currency, black and red bandannas and grey knit caps were also located in the vehicle. On Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 7:15 p.m. the Monterey County Gang Task Force initiated a traffic stop and arrested three identified gang members in the City of Seaside: Brian Romo (19 years old), Guillermo Ruvalcaba (19 years old) and a 17 year old male juvenile. A handgun was located in the vehicle. All three subjects were on probation at the time of the arrest. On Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 3:55 p.m. the Seaside Police Department arrested two identified gang members for armed robbery. It is believed drugs were involved. Arrested were Jeremiah Holbert (21 years old) and Emilio Villagrande (21 years old). The two firearms used in the robbery were located. In conjunction with the above arrests, the Seaside Police Department has received information indicating unknown persons are planning retaliatory events on Halloween (October 31, 2012) for recent shootings that have occurred in the City of Seaside. The community is advised to take due care and caution, be vigilant, and report all suspicious activity. The Seaside Police Department wants you to enjoy a safe, fun and happy Halloween! Below are a few safety tips to help insure your Halloween is a safe Halloween. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Consider organizing or attending parties at home, in schools or at community centers as alternatives to Trick or Treating Stay alert for any suspicious incidents and report anything unusual to the police department. Stay in well lit areas. Dont take short cuts and dont go into isolated areas. Wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight, glow sticks, etc. Teach children to never approach a vehicle Teach children not to go inside homes unless they have your permission. Only approach homes that are well lit, inside and outside. Be familiar with the area you and your children will be traveling. Know the homes and the neighborhood child visits, and who is providing the Halloween treats to your child. Make sure a trusted adult, older child, or a parent accompany younger children. Make sure your child can easily see and breathe when wearing their costume. Make sure the costume is flame resistant.
