What a weekend! Bikers,cowboys and families flocked to our lovely town from all over the place. The street parade was a lot of fun. The re-enactment of thunderbolts arrest was well done by the Upjohn boys, Bill Sr, Tim and Will. Many other schools and community groups were represented in the street parade. Harleys were everywhere with some amazing bikes in the show and shine. Alma park was buzzing with activity and the billy cart derby was enjoyed by participants and spectators alike.

Thunderbolt rides again

The Thunderbolts Classic Bull Ride was marked by a bit of an interruption when Murray the Biker, from Thargomindah, who rides a 200cc ag bike, wanted to have a ride on a bull. With 3 security guys trying to get him of the fence rail, finally he was given his shot of riding a bull. Duncan Elks, our local champion, was enlisted to kit him out and give him these sage words of wisdom about bull riding, hang on. In the end Murray ended up with a cut above his eye and a qualified ride on his second attempt. Money raised from the event went towards McMaugh Gardens. End of Days played on Saturday night to a enthusiastic response from the crowd. Punctuated by a great display of fireworks by the Holy Smoke team. The top and bottom pubs both were busy and everyone behaved themselves.

By all reports the numbers of folk in town this year for the Thunderbolts Festival were down a little on last year. This didnt detract from the fun and enjoyment had by all. Thank you to all the sponsors, organisers, store holders, SES and many others that all are helped make the event run smoothly and Uralla better. We will count the days until next years event. ABC will have a bit of feature on Friday night at 6:45pm

Citizens beware!
Here at The Uralla Post we have had a number of reports from locals being approached via email and direct mail to pay for services, products and more often than not advertising for businesses that they have not ordered and not approved to be used. The usual scam runs like this, they send you an invoice claiming you owe them for the aforementioned ad, product or service. Its not normally a huge amount of money as they hope you will just pay ti in the course of your bill paying. What business owner is going to question a $30-$40 bill when he has others sitting on the desk worth hundreds of dollars. Be aware and vigilant, if you receive a bill for something you didnt order then dont pay it. The consumer credit code strictly prohibits this practice. If you have any so called bills that you would like to share with us, make a copy or print it off and we will investigate it further. If we name the scammers it will help others avoid it.

Is it home? Confined in your yard where it is not getting into mischief or harming anyone else or their property? You may think that your is the best one ever but not everyone else may do. Funny that it is always a good tame dog that harms others and their controlled pets. We have a lovely village that is slowly getting a bad rep for dog faeces littering the streets and parks. Children playing in Alma Park run the risk of disease and illness due to the dog faeces in the play area. We have two off leash areas and Alma Park is not one of them but locals continually ignore this fact. The areas are the rest area on the northern side of town where the statues are and the cricket common at restricted times. It is hoped that all would clean up after their dogs even when using an off leash area. There are steep fines for owners who fail to be responsible for their dogs including the following;

The Ball and Auction was a huge success. 170 tickets were sold and to date $20,000 has been raised, which is absolutely amazing. It makes you appreciate this wonderful, kind and generous community which we are fortunate to be a part of. Mandy was an amazing mother, sister, aunt, partner & friend. She had a smile that would brighten up anyones day, a huge heart and a beautiful warm personality. She was loved by everybody and touched all our lives and made the My 2c worth, world a much brighter place. This tragic event left a void in our hearts. 150 years young

Uralla Central School will be celebrating its 150th year of educating our children on the 9th and 10th of November. Whats happening at your club?

This week we had the streets swept! Alleviating many complaints about litter, in particular cigarette butts in the stormwater gutters. These drain straight into our creeks. So we will keep the frogs alive a little longer.

Uralla Creek Walk Sanctuary open for business

By Barry Blair VISITORS and local residents of Uralla will benefit following the official opening of Uralla Creek Walk Sanctuary. Speaking at the weekend opening ceremony, Uralla Rivercare Group Chairman, Michael Batt said the big question asked 12 years ago, was where to start. Other questions included the status of Uralla Creek; was it a creek or a stormwater drain? Uralla Creek was an absolute mess, and we had to make a start, somewhere, he said. Uralla Shire Council supported the project and initially assisted with sediment eradication caused by erosion, the removal of (weeping) willow trees, and native tree plantings. The official opening of the walk is the culmination of 12 years work, and the contribution made by Uralla Shire Council is acknowledged. Uralla shire mayor, Michael Pearce said council had thanked the River Care Group, who had started the indigenous people and their project with a vision of passion. connection to land and water. Enjoying Both Your Cat And Your Wildlife

Any discussion about cats and the environment must include both feral and domestic animals because in reality one can become the other. Evidence of wildlife losses caused by cats, through hunting and the spread of disease, is mounting as the findings of more studies are reported. Some simple and sensible steps will remove the threat to wildlife. The cat, Felis catus, whether domesticated or feral, is a natural predator of animals up to its own weight and size,According to the Environmental Protection these pets, despite generally being well fed at home, on average take 16 mammals, 8 birds and 8 reptiles annually. For cat-owners less committed to absolute wildlife and pet care but who are prepared to make some effort, management is straightforward. In Australia, traditionally the cat has been admired and ownership has been encouraged by many Australians as both a social companion and a destroyer of vermin, despite its Domestic cat care From the outset it should be made quite clear that there is a simple win win solution to the problem of domestic cats and the surrounding wildlife a bonus for the humans that love both. There are three big management issues confronting a cat-owner uncontrolled breeding, wildlife hunting and spread of disease. Here are some ideas to relieve these issues Desexing, the pay-off is that, on average, desexed cats live longer. Keep the cat in at night to reduce prime-time kills. Most cats will use litter trays if trained to. By cleaning the litter out daily and carefully disposing of the faeces, you can remove the danger of toxoplasmosis to members of the household as well as to wildlife. A cat run incorporated into your house protects both your indoor cat and wildlife. Triple-bell your cat so that all the movement is captured; single bells appear to be ineffective. Note that bells dont help reptiles, which cant hear.

Roamin Lions
26 Moree roamin Lions spent a lovely time in Uralla ariving on the 21st and leaving on the 23rd. While here in Uralla they visited lots of interesting sights. Uralla Lions club joined the Roamin Lions on the Saturday at the golf club for dinner and and it was enjoyed by one and all. There was a tail twister on the night it raised $60 which was donated to the Mandy Basnett-Hawkins appeal. Before leaving Uralla the Moree Roamin Lions Club said they had enjoyed themselves greatly.

National SES Week

National SES Week 12-18 November is celebrated each year by State Emergency Services across Australia as a way of congratulating the 40,000 volunteers nationally for their hard work and dedication to helping people in times of need. The past 12 months have been particularly busy for NSW SES volunteers whove helped over 20,000 people during the flood emergency that swept across New South Wales earlier this year. A feature of National SES Week is Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day) on 14 November. We would like to encourage everyone to wear orange on this day to show support for SES Volunteers. Get your workplace or school involved. Download these flyers to promote WOW Day where you are and go orange for SES volunteers on 14 November. National SES Week is also an opportunity to promote the role of volunteers in our communities. The NSW SES has around 10,000 volunteers across the state from all walks of life. Woolbrook School Horse Sports Day

Friday, 9 November 2012 at Walcha Showground Woolbrook Public School which has 23 students will be holding its first ever Horse Sports Day at Walcha which will be run in conjunction with Walcha Campdraft and Gymkhana to be held on Saturday and Sunday, 10 11 November 2012. The day will consist of both primary and secondary students and we anticipate 80 120 students on horseback for the day ranging in ages from 5 to 16 plus. Woolbrook Public School consists of only 13 families and we are in need of funds. Small schools rely heavily on parental support and to host an event such as this we need as much help and support as possible. Later this year seven of our students will be traveling to Sydney to play the marimbas at the Entertainment Centre as foyer entertainment for the Schools Spectacular 2012. GRANDSTAND Pro bull riding in Uralla

The inaugural Thunderbolt Classic Bull Ride was a rousing success by all reports. With local bull riding champ Duncan Elks making an appearance and ring-in biker, Murray from Thargomindah. Money raised is going towards our very own McMaugh Gardens. Organisers were very happy with the turnout for the Bull Ride and if we ask nicely perhaps we will see some more events in our town. The refreshments flowed throughout the warm and sunny after out the back of the Top Pub. Who would have thought you could have such a fun time in a converted pub carpark. The winner, Riley Gibson, and 2nd place getter, Todd Litchfield, of the OPEN Bullride both donated a portion of their winnings to McMaugh gardens, WELL DONE.

Annual Inter-club Gymkhana

The Kingstown Pony Club and Uralla & District Pony Club had their annual combined gymkhana over the two days of the weekend. Competitors of all ages took part, with a healthy showing from our under 5 year olds. Many different pony clubs from all around the district were present and the weather was thankfully warm and sunny. All of the organisers should all be praised for their efforts and the local SES unit helped out too, to make another excellent event in Uralla. thank you to all who attended as well
