Please consider these important points: This is just our third proposal and there has been no agreement

nt from the board. Anything that comes out of negotiations must be ratified (voted on and approved) by the teachers and school board. Also included in this proposal is a $500 HRA for insurance expenses, reduction in the number of courses a teacher is required to teach, an early retirement incentive, and renewal rights for annual contract teachers. Our proposal also includes language that would make step increases automatic from year to year. Some teachers increases will be more than other for this reason. Under the step freeze some teachers lost more than others. For example if you were a teacher frozen on step 23 of the schedule you have lost approximately $25,000 over the last five years. If you were a teacher frozen on step 9 you have lost approximately $7,500. Or proposal tries in some way to make up these losses.

Example 1: Teacher currently on step 4 It is important for teachers to understand that this is just a proposal. There has been no agreement from the board. (For some reason teachers are thinking we have an agreement and nothing can be further from the truth.) All three salary schedules are part of the same proposal as this would be a two year agreement. Below are several examples on how the proposal would work. If you are on step 4 you are currently making $38,760. Under this proposal you would move to step 5 of the current salary schedule and your salary would increase to $38,903 and be retro-active to August 14, 2012. In January of 2013, you would be placed on step 1 of the new proposed salary schedule and be earning $40,000. In August 2014 you would earn a step and be making $41,000 a year. Step would continue to roll every year thereafter. Your total two year increase would be $2,240. On the new proposed schedule it would take you 18 years to reach the top, which increases your life time earnings. If we were to keep teachers on the current salary schedule and give them two steps, your two year increase would be $1,163 and it would take you another 21 years to get to the top of the salary schedule which decreases your life time earnings. Thank you for your questions and I hope you consider supporting your bargaining team. Step would continue to roll every year thereafter. Your total two year increase would be $8,558. On the new proposed schedule you would be at the top of the salary schedule by 2014, which increases your life time earnings. If we were to keep teachers on the current salary schedule and give them two steps, your two year increase would be $1,889 and it would take you another 3 years to get to the top of the salary schedule which decreases your life time earnings.
