Multi-storey car parks (MSCPs) are an integral and increasingly important part of the UK infrastructure.

Indeed, many businesses and shopping complexes would not be able to function without them. The parking standards of ten years ago, however, are no longer acceptable. Today, car park users demand safe and secure facilities finished to a very high standard. This, in turn, has created a growing need for car park operators and owners to regularly inspect, maintain and develop their parking facilities. Many MSCPs suffer from concrete deterioration, structural defects and safety shortcomings due to poor design and construction and low standards of maintenance and repair. Most problems are caused by corrosion of the concrete reinforcement. Whilst MSCPs were designed to normal building standards, experience has shown that the environment is more akin to the exposure of bridges. De-icing salts deposited by vehicles can significantly reduce the durability of these structures. The mechanisms of reinforcement corrosion and other car park deficiencies are fully understood by Concrete Repairs Limited (CRL) which is recognised for providing the UKs most comprehensive MSCP structural refurbishment service. The companys fifty years of experience in such specialist construction techniques has enabled it to evolve a meticulous, professional and nation-wide service to the parking industry, with most of its specialist activities undertaken by directly employed operatives. CRL also contributed in the preparation of the ICE report Recommendations for the inspection maintenance and management of car park structures recently published by Thomas Telford Ltd. The company fully supports the contents of the report and is able to help owners and operators achieve their legal and commercial responsibilities. The ICE Report recommends that an initial appraisal and condition survey is undertaken at intervals less than 8 years. CRL operates an independent division, CRL Surveys, which is able to inspect the car park, identify the reasons and extent of the deterioration and provide costed repair options.

CRL is able to provide a range of corrosion control options, including corrosion inhibitors and cathodic protection systems, as well as other equipment installations, to ensure that once refurbishment work is complete the car park will look as good as new and will not suffer further deterioration. CRLs comprehensive car park refurbishment services include: Condition surveys Concrete repair Cladding repairs Structural strengthening Joint sealants Corrosion control systems Deck waterproofing Protective & decorative coatings New lighting and signage CCTV security Ticketing systems Vehicle barriers

The British Parking Association (BPA) says that All parking facilities should Look Safe, Feel Safe and Be Safe. As a member of BPA, CRL fully supports this objective and is a member of the Safer Parking Scheme managed by the BPA. The Safer Parking Scheme is an initiative of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and is aimed at reducing crime and the fear of crime in parking facilities. Many of CRLs clients opt to partner with us. By working in unison, both parties are able to focus on the common goal of providing a refurbished car park on time and within budget. The company operates framework agreements with some of the UKs leading car park operators and owners. CRL is able to undertake major contracts up to a value of 5m. It is also one of just a handful of companies to have acquired the combined Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality accreditation, which comprises OHSAS 18001:1999 covering Health and Safety Management, ISO 14001:1996 covering Environmental Management and ISO 9001:2000 Quality Systems.
