Needed: 8 inch tan circles for head, 4x6 inch tan circles for ears, 2x12 inch purple, dark blue, light blue, green, yellow, orange, and red strips for hair, and 2x4 inch white and black circles for eyes; Color Crayons, Marker, or Colored Pencils, Book relating to colors of the Rainbow (Book used is The Rainbow and You, by E.C. Krupp but any rainbow-related picture book will do) and writing prompts.

Understandings/Big Ideas: Reading for enjoyment can serve the purpose of learning and fun at the same time. Using mnemonics can help us remember important information. Books and technology are resources that we can use to learn beyond our own personal knowledge. Knowledge from this Unit Students will be able to name the colors in the rainbow, using the mnemonic Roy G Biv. Students will be able to name reasons for reading and using technology, such as for learning new knowledge and for pleasure.
Essential Questions: What are the colors of the rainbow? How can reading and technology help me learn? How can reading and technology be fun?
Skills from this Unit Students will trace over each color of the rainbow, using colored pencils, markers, or crayons. Students will create the ficticious character, Roy G. Biv, helping them to remember the colors of the rainbow. Using a writing prompt, students will write complete sentences about the colors of the rainbow.
