Navigating Life Together

Serving with Compassion

YOUTHCOMPASS is committed to challenging international teens to give of themselves to those less fortunate. Through our annual PROJECT COMPASSION, students have the chance to give something of themselves to people who can never repay them.

Romania

In Spring 2013, teens and leaders can make a difference in the lives of Europes poorest people. In the gypsy village in Siria, Romania, families of 8 to 15+ people live in 12 room mud brick houses with no plumbing. 300 children live in this area but only 80 of them are in school. We will continue our partnership with NetWorks Romania, a local charity with deep ties in this community, in order to best serve here. We will also continue with the improvements we began in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2012 at Networks camp for impoverished children in Taut, Romania. This camp is also where we will stay.

Romania is in Southeastern Europe. It borders the Black Sea, between Bulgaria and Ukraine. After WWII, Soviet occupation led to the formation of a Communist "people's republic" in 1947. The decades-long rule of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and his police state was overthrown in late 1989. Former Communists dominated the government until 1996. Romania is a member of NATO & the EU. It is not part of the Schengen agreement and nonEU/non-US passport holders may still need visas.

Fun!

Every evening we will have a program with music, fun and an inspirational speaker, who will ask you to think about what you believe. You will join international teens from all over the world, making new friends as well as having a great time with those from your community.

You!

The Project

Proposed work projects will be improvements at the camp for impoverished children. We will also be in the Siria Gypsy village. Well work in the homes and gardens of the poorest families to improve their physical situations. Additionally, we will help to open a community center building in the gypsy village from which NetWorks local aid workers can run enhanced school and community programs.

Your help is needed. You will have the opportunity to learn new skills, helping to improve the conditions of those living in poverty. YOUTHCOMPASS will travel to Taut & Siria, Romania Spring 2013 to help. Will you join us?

Come and make a difference

Serve with Compassion

YOUTHCOMPASS works together with others in the international community, establishing a relational Christian presence among young people and their families.

Our leaders walk with students, supporting them unconditionallymodeling respect and trust, living a friendship. We are able to be a true friend to students in the midst of cultural transition, coming alongside those who are often challenged with the difficult questions of adolescence in a cross-cultural and highly mobile environment.
