Do Now (3-5 minutes): 8:30-8:33

The teacher will recap characters, setting, problem, and solution in the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff. I will use No Opt Out as a strategy while I recap.

The students are at the carpet responding to questions about the book, The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

All week we have been reading the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Today, we are going to retell the story. We retell stories using the words first, second, next, then, after, last/finally. Its important to retell a story because it helps us organize our thoughts. Sometimes, when we retell a story, we have our own schema about the story and it helps us make connections to other texts.

The students are at the carpet listening to the teacher.

I Do Input (1-2 Key teaching points): 8:35-8:45

The teacher is going to introduce the words first, second, next, then, after, last on sentence strips. The teacher will model retelling the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff by using and pointing to the words: first, second, next, then, after, last/finally.
Check for Understanding:

The students are at the carpet listening and observing the teacher discuss retelling words.

The teacher will cold call and ask students to restate what I said about what happened first and second.

Objective(s) SWBAT: Retell a story using the words: first, second, next, then, after, last/finally

We Do Guided Practice: 8:45-8:55

The teacher will ask students to help finish retelling the story orally using the retelling words as I have a student point to them as we retell.
Check for Understanding:

The students are at the carpet retelling the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Teacher will use the stick app to cold call students to answer questions on the order of retelling the story. Teacher will tell students that she will cold call.

You Do Independent Practice: 10:15-10:35

The teacher will have students make finger puppets to retell the story. (This lesson is extended for two days, the you do portion will be on Thursday)
Check for Understanding:

The students are retelling the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff with finger puppets.

The teacher will listen in on students as they retell the story and use a checklist to see which students are using the retelling words.
Modifications/ Accommodation s Allow students extra time to explain their reasoning.

Students are at their desks working on their exit ticket. (level 0)

The teacher will create a retell exit ticket. (This will be on Thursday)
